(43,153 posts)I feel like it's something people want to be a thing, but hasn't fully caught on, perhaps because it sounds too much like "nineties" and therefore is sort of confusing.
It's like the word "fetch" from the movie Mean Girls, a classic comedy from the, um, noughties. It just isn't going to happen.
Bottom line is there still hasn't been a good universally accepted term for the decade spanning 2000-2009 and I don't know if there ever will be. Noughties? Zeros? Ohs? Two-thousands? Aughts? Those Bush Years But Then We Got Obama At The End?
That being said, I do enjoy a good Gorillaz song and they were definitely one of the premier musical acts to come out of....um...that decade.

(43,102 posts)The noughties were 2001-2010.
Ä`2000 was the last year of the 1990s.
The 2nd millennium (2000 years) ended on December 31, 2000.
December 31, 1999 changing to January 1, 2000 was NOT the millennium change, only the START of the 2000th year.
There was no year zero. It went from 1 BC to 1 AD. (and no, the advanced Western world does not use obscure astronomical, etc calendars that do have a year zero as the common calendar)
The first decade (ten years) AD ended on December 31, 10 AD.
You can do the rest of the math.
The 20th century started January 1, 1901. (I have even had people argue that a years like, say, 1919 or 1981 etc etc cannot be in the 20th century, because they start with '19', roflmaooooo.)
1990 was the last year of the 1980s.
2020 was the last year of the 2010s, with 2021 the first year of the 2020s, etc etc etc.

(43,153 posts)Although I've yet to met someone who celebrated the beginning of a decade (or millennium) at the -1- year as opposed to the -0- year.
Just one thing we'll never change, regardless of the facts.
