For me its John Lennon. By all reports he was a misogynist, homophobe, and a really nasty guy.
But everyone else seems to overlook that.

(130,528 posts)But I think Andrea Bocelli is a crap singer even though a lot of people seem to think he's wonderful. He isn't. He sings flat. But I don't hate him; I just hate listening to him.

(15,107 posts)I don't like listening to him at all.
Sarah Brightman is another one. I just don't see or hear the appeal.

(15,107 posts)I call him Yawny.
Haven't heard of him for a while, but I remember when everyone around me just loved him.
Oh yeah, and then there's Manheim Steamroller. I knew my brother in law liked them. We were at a restaurant a few weeks ago and the college-aged server was telling us how a friend bought tickets and everyone else loved the concert. He was polite about it, but couldn't actually say he liked them.

(1,654 posts)If you really like the big treatment of popular songs, patronize your local symphony orchestra when they do their pop or movie presentations. I loved when Baltimore Symphony Orchestra did the Star Wars, West Side Story or Raiders of the Lost Ark. There is nothing like having the big screen show the movie and surrounded by the real full orchestra sound track in person.

(12,744 posts)But I dont get the love of the Ramones. I love literally every other major punk band, but something about the Ramones bugs me.
I agree about Lennon, Ive always been more of a Paul guy.

(46,155 posts)Lennon was definitely troubled as hell and could be an ass. I do think he worked hard on himself as he got older and found some redemption/peace before he was killed.
Big Paul guy here too!
I did like the Ramones, mostly because their songs are funny! It isnt great art but there is a lot of humor in them at least to me.

(102,780 posts)But regarding their artistic product is a strong like or dislike. Stevie Nicks. I don't like her voice and I can't understand more than three words in any song she sings, it sounds like someone tried to pretty-up the announcements in the station at Leichmere Center. I refrain from having any opinion on her personal life, I wasn't there and it has no affect on me.

(46,155 posts)Nicks does have some good songs, but a lot of them just sound the same. My wife goes so far as to claim Fleetwood Mac got Totally Ruined when Buckingham/Nicks joined.

(102,780 posts)I share your wife's opinion. They were great as a blues and even their transition albums were something I bought and I was not an album collector. I still have a couple of their older albums on tape. Welch and Greene were good songwriters and players, both McVies were there from the earliest, Christine finally joined when they needed her for a tour, she was a session player prior to that with them. She was far more talented and Nicks was a the deal-breaker for Buckingham's joining the band. I wish they had passed on him. Lindsey is very talented, too bad he has personality issues. But that's how it went, the rest is history.
AZSkiffyGeek
(12,744 posts)But then she had Buckingham fired for looking at her funny a couple years ago and that soured her for me.
She still has a ton of great songs with w Mac - Silver Springs is my favorite.

(102,780 posts)Her voice and her songwriting style isn't my cup of tea. She's okay as a background vocalist but I don't care to hear ten minutes of whatever she's singing about, I can't tell what words are being sung. I don't get the appeal. I have seen the band in concert before and after B&N arrived and I was not favorably impressed.

(29,949 posts)But
. If you read her bio she doesnt come out all that great. Kinda co-dependent. She does seem to have a caring heart.
Joe Walsh is the one that got away apparently.
For the record: Both of us switch the radio station on the Doors and I personally will not listen to Aerosmith. Jamie, please shoot me with that gun.

(102,780 posts)Led Zepplin to the lung at the power button crowd. There is just some stuff I won't ruin my mood with by listening to it. My radio is a boombox so I just hit "play" on the cassette deck and change it to something I would rather hear!
Aerosmith was a kind of local band back in their early day in south central New England, many of us thought they were over the top with too much volume.

(9,083 posts)My feelings are somewhat influenced by events in the Atlanta metro area where I live. We used to have only one active rock station that was under Clear Channel/iHeart ownership. About ten years ago without warning, Clear Channel/iHeart flipped the format from active rock to Top 40. There were a lot of protests from people who liked the old format, but those fell on deaf ears and the station remains Top 40 to this day.
For those not familiar with the term "active rock", this link explains it.

I say they always did suck.
Boring lyrics, lyrics that made no sense, bland music, and some songs that were simply asinine. (Like "Rockin' Me Baby."

I just couldn't get there. I wouldn't change the station or anything, but was totally indifferent.
