The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWhat strange or unusual videos do you watch on youtube?
I like Urban Exploring with Kappy, and other urban explorers. Tribal People Try is fun--a group of guys in Pakistan try different American, Canadian or other ethnic foods. I watched hoarder house cleanup shows for a time and then got tired of it. Cat tv (videos for cats) is fun for my cats and me. I also like "Becorns," where a clever craftsman makes little figures out of acorns and then poses them in natural settings in order to photograph. They are very sweet.
Of course I watch Hands for Paws and the The Dodo, Kitten Lady and Tiny Kittens.

(8,756 posts)but lately I have been following martijn doolaard . This guy is famous for having biked two years in a row from canada to end of south america and documented it.
Nowadays, he is living in the italian alps, restoring an old homestead and documenting it in video. It is stunningly well filmed and also the stories are first rate. This guy is a renaissance man, he can do anything.

(10,180 posts)I watch various psychics, astrologers, etc. too!
The practitioners I make it a point to check out on YouTube are Whimsy (Tarot and remote viewing), Marianne (Tarot-She's Australian), and Susan Lynn (channels her Spirit Guides).
I'd love to hear who your "go-to's" are....
50 Shades Of Blue
(11,391 posts)Marianne's knowledge of American politics is really impressive (and puts many of the American readers to shame) and she has a good track record.
There are many I have watched and still subscribe to, but I have had to really narrow down the ones I still do usually watch. They are Cash Peters, Linda G (mainly because she's entertaining), Andre (Astrology Alert), Kim (Intuitiview), Psychic Violetta, SouLight Hynotherapy, Denise Siegel, and Evon Davis.
If I have time I'll try to watch Sterling, Sheila Celtic Tarot, Lena Rodriquez, Jenn Lynn, Tarot's Apprentice, David Johnson, Milou, Hogarth, Lilac Lantern, Heart-Centered Tarot, Ellie (Dreams Down Under), and Lori (Way of Positive Change)... there are more, but those are the ones who came to mind. Oh, I watch Whimsy too but only her short remote viewing videos. Another one I like is Kirsten Langston (Third Eye Champagne).
How about you? When did you start watching them? I started after the 2016 election.

(9,650 posts)Actually interesting to see how hooves are groomed and treated medically.
Did you know they get little rubber booties to level out healing tootsies?
This of course goes along with the farrier videos of horses with badly overgrown hooves. I have no idea how YouTube thought I might be interested in this stuff.

What soft close hinge do I need for a 3/4 inch thick cabinet face frame that has been refaced with an additional 1/4 inch of material?
Best location to mount a vice on a workbench
That type of stuff. YouTube has it all!
I also visit a ton of music videos.

(31,308 posts)sheep and goat farmers, cattle ranchers, true crime, car crash videos, history and archeology, quiz shows, and various other topics. for a while I watched a slew of TTC channels (trying to conceive). I am currently watching almost every video Meidas Touch uploads. Al Franken's podcast, Pod Save America, etc. Mama Doctor Jones and all the late night comedy shows, though not as frequently these days.
I watch a bunch of Dodo and other happy-making critter videos right here on DU, courtesy of the Lounge. Have also watched a bunch of Hands for Paws, Kitten Lady, and another rescuer whose name escapes me. A faithful viewer of Vet Ranch.
I finally got youtube premium after spending most of the pandemic on youtube, and if I had only one paid video provider this would be it. the content is virtually endless.
my current favorites come and go especially about politics.

I owned a handful of those muscle cars in the early 70s. The main thing that comes to mind is I'm glad I owned them when they (and gas) were cheap.
'57 Fairlane Club Coupe
'64 Malibu SS
'65 GTO
'66 Fairlane GT
'57 Corvette
The only one I paid more than $1,000 for was the Corvette. That one was $1,500. The other thing to remember is I owned all those (not at once) before I made $2.50 an hour.

(6,024 posts)I was taught to drive in the late '60s by a great driver: my father, who raced sports cars locally. But even his wonderful teachings couldn't prepare this old person for the type of conditions and drivers we have in the present.
Good dash cam videos (not the shock ones) of accidents and near accidents and just plain bad driving help me to prepare for the madness that is urban traffic especially as my reaction time erodes. There's one channel I frequent that would be great as a driver ed course in high school.

Also house renovation, history, travel, food
I like Tribal People Try but I have a big question that I cannot seem to find answer to. Those folks that try the food are I assume are Muslim, and some of the food that they eat obviously contain pork. Do they know?!?

Both are charming, knowledgeable about tanks, and excellent hosts of numerous videos giving tours inside and outside the great tanks of war history, and a few of some of the more interesting but obscure tanks.

(18,567 posts)Virtually everything I watch on YT would be considered strange or unusual by someone.
For example, I like to watch vids of baseball and football games from decades in the past. The results are already known and in most cases the players are dead. Why watch, then? Because of the aesthetic of the play, which becomes the prime amusement rather than the uncertainty of the outcome.
