Wendy Malick and The Humane Society

I love her for what she does on the behalf of the animals. The ads that she does for the Humane Society obviously are very effective and needed to make us all more aware of the cruelty to our furry friends and how to help. But they are gut-wrenchingly heart breaking to watch.

Still, I appreciate her for being proactive and caring for them. I read her biography on Wiki. She and her husband have 3 dogs and a cat. If I could give her a hug, I'm afraid I might squeeze the breath from her cuz I love her so much. It also said she was previously a model and performed on "Baywatch". Was she a Baywatch babe?

Can't watch her commercials though. I applaud her for doing what she does for animals, as I do everyone who does anything to stop animal cruelty and promote animal welfare.

She seems like a great lady.

And a very fine comedian.

according to Wiki. It may have been just a brief stint and then a change of heart. Of course, Kemp always tried to portray himself as kind of a Labor friendly conservative. His portrayal and not mine. I never suspected there was such a thing and it's proven over the years since.

I've loved her since Dream On. Never watched the a-hole/Frasier show but I think she was on it. Loved her in Just Shoot Me, now in the BERTINELLI show.

In Dream On the recurring joke was that her new husband, who never was seen, was a world class humanitarian, that she was always involved/meddling in her ex-husband's life, that the ex-husband could never measure up to the new husband who was always getting awards up to and including the Nobel. This is somewhat related to her real life. In Just Shoot Me, the references were to her modeling past, with real posters on the walls of the real her.

She's (Egyptian?) like Hoda. Something about those Egyptians, just wonderful/beautiful.

Frasier, IIRC. Malick is wonderful as Victoria, but the reasons I always watch HIC are my three-plus decade crush on the still-gorgeous Valerie Bertinelli and Betty White's immortal way with a 10-megaton zinger. It really is a pretty damned good show.

never found Grammer to be funny. I suspect his job was to be the foil.

The rest of the cast, though, was hilarious, even the dog, and I had a huge crush on Roz.

Once in a while an episode would have me on the floor. I'm having a huge brain fart here but one flaying Dr. Laura ("Keep your knees together-- staple them!&quot and another with a Brit actress I never thought of as a comedian kinda stand out if I could remember more about them.

Malick has been married twice: from 1982 to 1989 to actor and screenwriter Mitch Glazer, and since 1995 to Richard Erickson. Through their charity, A Drop in the Bucket, she and Erickson support a medical center in the Congo and share an ongoing commitment to a women's shelter in Tijuana, Mexico. They live in the Santa Monica Mountains with three dogs, two horses and a cat. Malick is a pescetarian.[6] She donates to Democratic political candidates, organizations and causes.[7]

Then look at the last line from wiki under Personal Life. Not disputing your word, but either this is an update or an error on Wiki.

That was a pretty lengthy synopsis. It clearly indicated only one per cent went to local animal shelters and that some 50% goes into advertising, hiring more employees than the White House, pension plan costs in investments, over 50 lawyers on retainer, and etc.

But I didn't read where the expose indicated what percentage didmake it to some large shelter near HSUS and ASPCA headquarters in their rescue of animals. Surely this doesn't mean that only 1% to animal rescue of any kind. Even if much of it is used to take the animals out of and away from cruel homes, owners mistreating them, and finding homes for them, I don't mind what I contributed in the past if much of it goes into rescue and prosecution.

It doesn't negate all the contributions just because it wasn't used for local shelters, at least in my mind. I would just change my habit and contributing directly to local shelters instead now.

Charity Navigator gives HSUS 4 stars...

http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3848

And, there's this from Wikipedia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humane_Society

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) does not operate, control, or fund local humane societies. However, it does provide support through grants,[12] training of animal care personnel, standards of care, and evaluation services.[13] The HSUS frequently works with shelters in disaster operations and large-scale animal rescues, assisting in the evaluation, triage, handling, transport and care of rescued animals.[14] The HSUS maintains the animalsheltering.com website for animal care professionals, and publishes a bi-monthly magazine, Animal Sheltering to which 12,300 shelters and rescue groups subscribe.[15]

The HSUS provides national promotion of shelters and animal adoptions, alone or in partnership with other animal protection charities.[16] The Shelter Pet Project is a joint venture of The HSUS, Maddie's Fund, and the Ad Council to promote awareness of shelters and encourage adoptions.

In 1994, the Chronicle of Philanthropy, an industry publication, released the results of the largest study of charitable and non-profit organization popularity and credibility. The study showed that the Humane Society was ranked as the 6th "most popular charity/non-profit in America" of over 100 charities researched with 42% of Americans over the age of 12 choosing "Love" and "Like a lot" for the Humane Society .[17]

flies in the face of the negative criticisms of the other agencies. A bit confusing now as to whether HSUS is a very popular charity that people love or iike a lot as opposed to being a self-serving agency that spends more on themselves than the rescue animals. You just never know anymore. Now I don't know what to believe. I always thought they were on the up and up.

and so pleased with newly generated respect for both HSUS and Wendy.

You really have to be careful these days with so much misinformation being thrown out there to purposely mislead people and turn people away from the genuine good guys. There's too many bad guys working behind the scenes these days who should have to answer in a court of law for their deceit.

22. You know that's a Rick Berman astroturfing project, right?
Thu Aug 16, 2012, 12:03 PM
Aug 2012
http://www.prwatch.org/node/8894

Front group man extraordinaire Rick Berman and his attack group, the Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF), have launched a new Web site, HumaneWatch.org, to harass the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the country's largest animal welfare organization. In pursuing its mission of stopping animal cruelty, HSUS has apparently run afoul of some large, wealthy business interests, and now it is getting some major pushback.

The Humane Society works to stop egregious, ongoing animal abuse, particularly in money-making enterprises like puppy mills, factory farming, dogfighting, cockfighting, and unsporting hunting practices like "canned hunts," where hunters pay to shoot at captive, domestically-raised, exotic animals. While this is a laudable goal, it pits HSUS against a significant number of wealthy, powerful businesses that engage in animal cruelty practices, like meat and egg producers, factory farmers, canned hunting businesses, contract research labs that do animal testing for big corporations and pharmaceutical companies that exploit animals to manufacture drugs like Premarin, which is used to treat the symptoms of menopause. Premarin is made from pregnant mares' urine and is marketed by Wyeth Pharmacueticals, one of the world's largest drug companies.

People Love Animals

HumaneWatch.org may have a hard time trying to build public animosity towards the Humane Society, since most of civil society cannot countenance the extreme cruelty against animals that occurs in these facilities. (There are now a number of videos showing such treatment posted at SourceWatch.org). At present, Berman's site, HumaneWatch.org, is trying to generate outrage against HSUS by ridiculing the group's recent activities, like raising funds for animal relief in Haiti and marketing its own brand of cruelty-free, all-natural dry dog food that does not support the factory farming industry. HumaneWatch is also trying to hurt and embarrass businesses that donate to HSUS, like the Yellow Tail Wine company, which recently donated $100,000 to HSUS's Animal Rescue Team. To target Yellow Tail, HumaneWatch.org posted a video of a cowboy standing in a manure-filled pen surrounded by cows, and pouring a bottle of Yellow Tail wine on the ground, while explaining that he is doing it to retaliate against the company for supporting the Humane Society. The video makes you want to donate to HSUS and go out and buy Yellow Tail wine to thank them for caring about animals.

Who is Funding HumaneWatch.org?

Berman typically sets up his front groups as 501(c)4 organizations and then carries out his attacks through these groups to avoid disclosing his donors, so we have no way of knowing which industries or companies are funding Berman's attack on the Humane Society. We can probably get a good idea, though. Just determine which businesses profit most from animal cruelty, and you'll likely find the funders among them.

Who is Rick Berman?
