Ten Dean Martin Christmas songs in constant rotation 7 hours a day since December 3rd. It’s the audible part of our winter DINOEL festival. And even though the Bluetooth speaker is outside at the sidewalk the wife claims it is cruel and unusual punishment.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the (alien) Universe, ours, and oddly more closely related to the song's real history than played by those holiday star-gazing sheep shepherds - a timeless and global ear worm? Thanks for sharing this little piece of joyful weirdness.

Then comes the music and by the time it finally gets here, I’m sick of it. The music. The commercials. The traffic. The stress. Aggg. It’s such a festive holiday but it’s getting to be too much. That, and I’m getting old and grouchy, I guess

It’s all about marketing. It’s a huge part of the economic health of the country.

It’s anti social to not indulge in all the nonsense. Gifts for everyone you know plus a few things for yourself as you look for gifts for others. Spending is tricky…not too cheap and not too expensive lest you be judged.

The red, white and green obligatory interior decorations, fancy outdoor lights and blow-up characters, the feast menus…it gets more tacky and more expensive every year. It’s all nonsense, barely associated with the birth of Jesus, and yet like sheep, we open our wallets, hit the malls, and throw a huge festival of excess few can really afford.

Hey, I like a good party now and then but this is beyond ridiculous.

I quietly celebrate Saturnalia by joining with people I enjoy and share a nice meal together. I don’t shop, I don’t decorate, I don’t cook and I don’t stress. I just enjoy the company of the friends and family I chose to be with.

That Christmas music? Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is the current favorite. Mariah markets records using T&A sex. So Savior adoring, yes? Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” is always a hit - very celebratory of the Savior’s birth, don’t you think? Elvis sings of a love lorn “Blue Christmas” - very reminiscent of a certain night in Bethlehem, right?

“Christmas” in many countries is simply a well executed marketing scam. Get with it or get over it and move on. As for me, I moved on long ago.

and really horrible arrangements of the good old ones. There is some wonderful Christmas music but what we hear in stores and on the radio is almost entirely crap.

I do like the decorations and the fact that this holiday started off as a pagan holiday and now the Christians think they own it. I will say I get a tender heart hearing Ava Maria this time of year. I also enjoy the kids who are still innocent and full of wonder.

is the inflatable 10 - 12 foot snowman sitting on a neighbor’s green , GREEN Florida lawn. (There are few things more ludicrous than a snowman on a lawn.)
It has a continuous running loop of the worlds ALL TIME WORST songs from “Rocking Around the Xmas Tree” to “Jingle Bell Rock” and then continues through all seven levels of Dante’ Hells.
This has been running about 12 to 16 hours a day since about the Fourth of December.

I don’t know if it is innocent, or if the person is just a noise loving jerk or if it is directed at the Muslim family directly next door to them.

In any case, I am not a fan.
