I see birds and squirrels burrowed in the unexposed limbs of Blue Spruce trees.. Deer/Elk tend to find heavily treed areas with lots of undergrowth (those that aren't hanging around the local mountain breweries enjoying the hops and other "discards. )... Prairie dogs and black-footed ferrets have their own handy burrows. As have the coyotes, foxes, and lynx/bobcats. Bears, hopefully, have already found their hibernation cave. Old abandoned buildings and barns are always options for birds and smaller mammals in more rural areas.
Sadly, our raptors are fighting both cold, hunger, and rampant Avian Flu--so they will be hit hard regardless.

(17,047 posts)We've put a lot of seed out yesterday and today, and have a lot of birds, especially cardinals. Several birds have hit windows today, even though the seed is away from the house. I hope they find trees and brush to shelter in, and can weather this horrible cold weather. You are so kind to think of the wildlife
