Update on my raging dental pain.

My dental pain is gone so the antibiotic worked. I saw my dentist today, will see him again after I finish with the antibiotic. I was convinced he'd take the tooth out but he didn't. I am following up after I finish the antibiotic. I'm due for a cleaning and also finally getting that crown (new year and my insurance will kick in).

So I'm cool...

open up again at Stop and Shop. Dentist told me that pharmacies such as S&S are closing forever. I wish I knew why! What are we supposed to do for medicine?

Pain killers did nothing for it. Fortunately I got it treated quickly and the antibiotics kicked in after a day.

I've experienced a lot of pain in my life but somehow miraculously for 67 years I have escaped a toothache. Particularly one THAT BAD.

Painkillers aren’t nearly as effective as just getting on amoxicillin right away. But it was the worst pain I’ve ever had.

I have had many dental infections and lost teeth due to lack of insurance. I currently have several badly broken teeth. I manage with ibuprofen - up to 3200mg per day - if the pain gets bad. I have made occasional ER visits to get antibiotics - I go in and tell them I have zero desire for pain meds as I only do ibuprofen. I just want abx to clear the infection. I have heart issues and don't want infections to spread. Usually, once the abscess goes away most of the pain resolves.

The pain is horrendous. I can't function through it. I have had 2 completely natural live births and 1 miscarriage, which was exactly like labor. My 2 births were 27 hours and 21 hours respectively. I didn't have an ounce of pain medication. During one labor, I looked at my husband and said, "This is still easier than dental pain." THAT is how bad dental pain is.....I'd rather give birth unmedicated.

i have had what i think is comparably bad pain with my back. and a kidney stone, which was not entirely the "worst" pain, but is a different kind of pain, that makes you throw up. I've also heard that gout is one of the worst pains imaginable. And toothache.

I've also had 4 natural childbirths, the last 3 without pain meds. My third child came so fast I didn't even have an anesthetic for the episiotomy but of course at that moment who cared? not me. My theory is with childbirth there's a payoff that, if it doesn't erase the pain, at least makes it worthwhile.

I hope you make sure you always have food before you dose with mass quantities of ibuprofen! that will eat up your stomach - my cousin nearly died from an NSAID taken on an empty stomach. I can never let anyone tell me they're taking ibuprofen without cautioning them about it, because she didn't know. her doctors didn't tell her. this was years ago, but I am not exaggerating when I say she nearly died.

Like this is an idiot or evolution failed.
We have baby teeth for 4 or so years. Then adult teeth and they are supposed to last 60 or more years.WTF.

Why can't new teeth grow?
Why cant we lose bad teeth like sharks do and regrow them?

Teeth suck. Why do we have such sensitive nerves in our teeth if we can't remove them by ourselves when they get infected?

We should be able to have new teeth push out the bad teeth, triggered to happen naturally when bacteria reach a certain number, the tooth falls out,the wound lets the infection drain out and as the wound heals a new tooth emerges as the hole forms around the new tooth. Why can't we grow several sets of teeth in our lifetime?

Why can't we have teeth like that?

the problem is likely that our teeth evolved before the race was exposed to sugar.

Gross as this may sound, there are people called osteoarcheologists, who instead of examining artifacts, examine bones - and teeth because they are attached. And prior to when sugar became available to Europeans, people there died, at similar ages, with much better and less damaged teeth. Even after sugar came in, the tooth damage for a long time affected the wealthy mor than anyone else - for obvious reasons.

If I remember correctly, an artery runs from your heart to your jaw...I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth, with curved roots, and it took the dentist 4 attempts to just pull one tooth; he promptly left town for the weekend and left me with nothing for pain due to dry sockets.

12. My dentist nightmare
Mon Jan 9, 2023, 11:46 PM
Jan 2023

I went to the dentist complaining about tooth pain repeatedly. He kept telling me it was something other than my teeth. I started having seizure like episodes and unbearable pain. I wanted to die. Turns out, I did have an abscessed tooth and he never captured the root area in the xray, so he kept ruling it out. This pain had been going on for around 5 years. I went to the emergency room several times and they gave me antibiotics, though they never could figure it out. They gave me antibiotics, which helped. The abscess started affecting my brain. I have long term damage now. The only reason I found out about the x ray was because the dental assistant showed me the x ray he kept using. She is no longer employed. They finally discovered the abscess during a routine dental visit. My life will never be the same.

So very sorry you suffered such bad dental care and had to endure so much pain for so long. Especially sad to hear that the improperly treated tooth cause permanent damage to you.

because they don't want bacteria to get into your bloodstream, even if you're still on antibiotics.

You might be on them again post extraction, so lay in a supply of yogurt with live cultures. It can help prevent GI issues.

While sitting in my car, next to a wife stoned out of her mind on pain killers, for 4 hours in an underground car park, in 32 degree C heat.

Yes, the dental pain - so severe, she hasn't made much sense over the last week.

The back story.

1. Snapped a tooth off level with the gumline, in November.
2. Went to a local dentist, nope, needs a dental surgeon, try this guy.
3. Dental surgeon booked - first available spot, 20th Jan 2023.
4. Wife insisted she could wait that long. Turns out . . . nope.
5. Massive pain, multiple doctor visits for antibiotics, pain killers. Pain went, came back.
6. Last couple of days swollen face, major pain.
7. Rang another place, sure, 10:30 am tomorrow.
8. We rock up, waiting time took this out to noon.
9. Too swollen, here is a script for antibiotics, come back at 4 pm.
10. 4 pm became a 5:30 pm wait, she was worked on by up to 3 dentists for 2 hours.
11. Paid the AU $ 550 without arguing. After all, they spent quite a bit of time in that room listening to her throw up.
12. Got her back home and resting, sort of.

I'm totally exhausted! What a way to spend a day!

Major sympathy for those who have been through this.

I better go see how she is . . .
