for a costume fitting?
George Clooney!!!
The fitters were told not to make a fuss about him, just measure and not be star struck.
I think I'd be more than a little dazed...

I picked up a ton of stuff the second time around, like, I didn't 'Delmer' (Tim Blake Nelson) played Buster Scruggs.

(39,900 posts)I was astounded to see Buster Scruggs playing a Recording King in the opening scene. The Recording King was depression era Montgomery Ward brand guitar made by Gibson.
I just learned a California outfit is reproducing the line again, albeit made in China.
Buster Scruggs played a black Recording King Dirty30

(2,151 posts)There is a really funny bit that Clooney tells on himself, on the Graham Norton show from a few years back. About his singing ability in this movie. I'll attach a link to the show and he tells the story at 23:20 mins. Very self-effacing guy.
Brother Buzz
(39,900 posts)prior to going into the studio, thinking he was going nail it and hit it out of the park.
With his voice, I believe, with a little bit of proper training, he could learn to sing well.

(7,634 posts)George was driving pretty hard to the hoop for the vocal role but, lovable as he is, isnt a world-class singer.
I worked the show (and other Clooney productions).
And yes, he is as genuinely nice as they all say. In the midst of filming, we would talk about his upbringing in Kentucky. It made me really appreciate someone who never forgot where he came from.

(43,168 posts)My friend was dining in a restaurant and Clooney came in with three other women.
Friend was seated directly behind him in a booth and said that his barber doesn't shave the back of his neck.
Also that he is short. Not that there's anything wrong with being short, but stereotypes in Hollywood are "tall, dark, and handsome," not "short et al."

Oh, and he's 5'11" -- same as Brad Pitt.

I finally realized that was because they were her height: 58. Since I was 54 I saw things differently.

(33,352 posts)one night at Gabriel 's* on West 60th in New York after attending a concert at Lincoln Center. All of a sudden the restaurant got very quiet. We looked up and saw the Maitre'd showing two men to the booth right next to ours. One of the men was George Clooney. We could hear him when the wait staff were interacting with his table and he was very polite and personable to the staff, just as you would hope he would be.
That turned out to be one of our best celebrity sightings from our many trips to NY over 30 some years.
*Gabriel's lost their lease after many, many years at their location on W 60th. Then COVID. They reopened at their new location on Central Park South over a year ago. I was there with a friend who lives in NY last May and the new location is fabulous. Still one of my favorite NY restaurants.

(9,090 posts)and keep those jobs - any star gets uncomfortable and complains......

(4,319 posts)There are unspoken rules about professionalism when it comes to dealing with celebrities. One doesn't last long in those positions without being respectful of the people they're dealing with. Big stars have to constantly deal with the public's adoration, whether they want to or not. They shouldn't have to do it behind the scenes.
Name a big star. There is a good chance I've met them. In forty years I've never asked for an autograph and only asked for one photo, (Sheila Kuehl, Zelda from "Dobie Gillis," who is an L.A. County supervisor, and a staunch Democrat).

(4,319 posts)Meryl Streep jokingly threatened to punch me out.
It's a very funny story.
This was about forty years ago, and I was stage managing on the red carpet for an Academy Awards pre-show that was syndicated worldwide. Our anchors were interviewing all the stars as they walked by. Meryl Streep was very pregnant at the time, and wasn't stopping to talk to anyone. She obviously didn't want to be on camera. As a stage manager, I was wearing a tuxedo and a headset, and was crouching beneath our cameras since our space was limited. I reached out and touched her hand as she walked by. She turned and looked at me, and I think she thought I was a radio reporter, because she walked right over to me.
Just as she did that our anchorman announced to the people at home "Meryl Streep everyone! Meryl, we're on the air live!" She looked at the cameras, looked down at me, and shook her fist at me like she wanted to punch me out. Of course, she was smiling the whole time. Our anchorman then announced that "Meryl wants to punch out our stage manager!"
It was forty years ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I don't know if she would remember it, but I bet she would. It was funny, and she was very gracious about it.

(68,203 posts)They made a movie together. While I would see Waterston in anything, the idea of the movie was kind of crazy. I found out that he and I had been at the Harvard-Yale game at the Yale Bowl when he took part of a protest on the field after half time. They were protesting the two schools' investments in companies that were environmentally harmful. They sat there and wouldn't leave; it was getting dark and there are NO lights at the Bowl so hubby and I left. I heard later that the protesters left, they resumed playing and IN THE DARK won the game.

(10,180 posts)I've seen him two times in the 90's. Both were during his ER days.
To this day he's the most gorgeous human I've ever seen in real life!
The first time I saw him he was shooting baskets on his lunch break on the Warner Brothers studio (I was there for work).
The second time I saw him was in the foyer of the hotel (which was the main gathering place) for the after parties for the 1995 Golden Globes. A friend (who was a Production Assistant which is a gopher) got us in. He was beautiful! I swear to God we made eye contact and smiled.....I'll NEVER forget that!

(337 posts)a great guy! And his parents are lovely people. We're from the same area as they are and he went to college and become friends with my younger brother. He was good friends with a girl and introduced her to my brother and they ended up married. I knew George as a really nice young guy but didn't run around with him much as they were younger than I was.
