When you are legit sick and trying to tell them you hope it's over quick, and they pile on with this guilt trip about being short staffed or yeah cuz we really cant deal with you being sick for more than ONE day...
I mean, I KNOW.
I know you need bodies there, I wouldn't be sick for more than a day if I had my way too... duh! I am the one dealing with stomach ick and puking and shitting...
would you be nicer if I was more graphic? Do you WANT me to come in and puke in a bucket by my desk and give everyone the flu too?
Ugh...I know they have to be that way blah, blah, blah... but It's so annoying when you are sick with a side serving of guilt.
rant off...

(4,503 posts)And someone called in sick, I would thank them for staying home. I didn't want to catch what they had. And I didn't need several people home sick at the same time.
Also I had venerable family members who couldn't take the risk for their own health and they needed me to stay healthy.

(4,503 posts)First, takeing care of your own health and keeping your job.
Second, having one sick child dropped off and end up with several sick in a few days.
Third, the parents are probably pressured by their boss to be on the job no matter what.

(15,771 posts)Living in a resort town with lots of service industry workers. Add to that we are the subsidized state run facility, so there's lots of these families I KNOW cuz I have worked at the school next door and in the Hotels.
I was that single mom who had to risk losing a job with one sick kid or it spreading to the other kid and me and being out for days on days. I've cycled through a lot of jobs in a small time/area. The past 5 years I was sideswiped with my health becoming an issue of not being able to do much and finally admitting I needed a part time gig, and desk job was it...no more running around with the kiddos on the playground. Now I can still get the fun working the front desk but also step in to give other teachers their 10's and get some fun time, waaaay easier.
It's also a new-ish gig and we've also missed a lot of snow days, so I understand her stress.
But my body is probably gonna have to cycle thru a couple bugs since I've been away from kids and people for so long. Did some front desk in 2019 and 2021 but that's it. It's like all of a sudden I'm in the HERD of life again, not isolated to home or dr offices where everyone masks anyway...

Take care and have fun when you can with the children.

(15,771 posts)Or maybe I feel it as snarky when I'm the subordinate to someone my child's age? *cringe* I feel like an ass to say it but IDK... I've had a few younger than me managers in the past few jobs and it's a different vibe.

(4,746 posts)I had no idea how his body would deal with it. I told his manager that he had five days of Paxlovid which was his best bet for recovering and that to give the drug the best shot he would check in with them on day five. I wasnt popular but it was vacation days that are used as sick days so I didnt feel he should be bothered while healing. In 2020 the business gave 10 Covid sick days. Those who got sick in 2022 used vacation time. Take the time you need.
