No pants, no problem? Kylie Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and more stars and fashion notables seem to think so. They are ushering in a Gen Z fashion trend of leaving the house in just tights or underwear-esque briefs no outerwear required. Sound risqué? It's just the latest way this generation is taking creative clothing liberties to rebel.
"Fashion is just expressing what's going on broadly in culture," says longtime business of culture journalist Christina Binkley. "We're in a rule-breaking era." Here's why it seems like runways, red carpets and sidewalks are seeing less pants than ever before.
It can mean a couple of different fashion choices, but boils down to a lingerie-inspired outfit. Some step out wearing tights as pants (remember the uproar a few years back about wearing leggings as pants?), men's briefs with nothing else layered on top of it (see: Hadid) or a bodysuit as an entire outfit.
We have Fashion Week and famous models to thank for this look trickling down to regular folk. Designers like Bottega, Miu Miu and Burberry showcased different takes on pants-less looks, and then it was a matter of time before fashion influencers such as the Kardashian-Jenners, the Hadids and Julia Fox made it the buzz-iest fashion trend since Barbiecore. "If you did that in the office, thats the stuff of nightmares," jokes Binkley. But while it's a decidedly NSFW fashion trend, it isn't terribly indecent by the fashion world's standards.

I think I'll just cut a big hole in something I've already got...
This is probably OK for those working at home, as long as you have the heat up.

(81,270 posts)She was walking her little dog down the street.
I am used to seeing girls in sports bras and yoga pants.
But this was the first time I had seen a regular lacy bra as only the top garment.
And then with sweatpants.
I tried not to stare.
I love fashion and don't mind new looks.
This was an attractive blond teenager and she carried off the look.
But if she had been my daughter I would have told her to go back
to the house and put a tee shirt on.

(23,084 posts)But I don't think "no pants" or "lingerie inspired" is a great idea for teen girls.

(62,145 posts)I was for a while, and it could be difficult to find clothes off the rack that fit. It was a bit easier in the days when I wore a lot of miniskirts because I have long enough legs to get away with hemlines inches higher above the knee than they'd have been for women of average height. And I'd often buy men's jeans for 34 or 36 inch inseams....and my 6'4" kid brother permanently borrowed one pair of leather-trimmed hiphugger bell bottoms since he couldn't find a pair for himself.
I envied women who had an easier time shopping.
Btw, the models you see in catalogs are typically shorter than high fashion models.

(29,949 posts)Love that show. I love they started plus size models which are more average than plus size.
Ive always needed a longer rise in my jeans so had lots of trouble finding jeans to fit.
I also have small shoulders and very ample boobage so always had trouble with tops too.
