Madonna has once again infiltrated the pop culturesphere. The 64-year-old singer announced her 12th world tour a spin across 40 cities and through four decades of hits entitled Celebration via a five-minute black and white video that shows her hosting a dinner party with an assortment of famous friends that was as attention-demanding as you might expect.

And to coincide with all that, Piers Morgan, avatar of outrage, is predictably up in arms. How dare she presume to shove herself in our faces yet again, flaunting her body; her smutty jokes; her plastic surgery; her totally, incredibly, no-holds-barred age-inappropriate self?
Duh, because she always dared that was her truth, more than the dancing, the OK singing, the documentaries, the ad campaigns channeling a sexy housewife for Dolce & Gabbana and a power C.E.O. for Versace. Why should it be any different just because shes reached Social Security age?
Madonna was never going to go gently into that good night, even if she did have a brief phase living as English landed gentry (that was after her period as a hippie earth mother, as preserved on another cover of Vanity Fair, and her period of being Marilyn Monroe). She has always danced on the edge of absurdity and self-caricature, ever since she started actually dancing around the New York club scene in ripped lace petticoats, crosses and fingerless gloves with her belly sticking out. Even when she falls over, as she did at the Brit Awards in 2015, she does it with gusto and no apologies. We need someone to show us how. Shes not so much a train wreck as the train that wrecks the stasis of smothering politesse; the best woman for the job.

(3,486 posts)Hopefully it will be a decent show. I've seen her 3 times, Blonde Ambition, Drowned World, and Reinvention.
I wonder how much dancing she'll be doing in the new shows since her hip replacement?

(27,120 posts)I missed the Virgin tour, and then she never came to Phoenix again until the "Confessions" tour.
I'll never miss her again!
She's playing here the day before my birthday, so I'm counting it as a b-day present to me!

Of the concerts I saw, Blonde Ambition was probably my favorite. She was almost at her peak awesomeness back in the early 90s. I do remember that concert was in May right around my birthday, so that is probably why I splurged and got tickets!
OH, and one other interesting thing from my Madonna past, our original tickets for Drowned World were for 9/11/2001. Of course, that concert was canceled the morning of and was rescheduled for that Saturday and she gave all of the proceeds from that show to the recovery efforts. It was also her last concert of the tour so we got to see her thanking all of the crew at the end of the show.

(27,120 posts)The Confessions tour is my favorite (so far).
Seeing her come down in that giant disco ball to start the show was incredible.
Also, I was so excited when she started "Ray of Light" I almost peed myself (TMI, I know, but I was soooooooo excited!)

(1,824 posts)but I think she's wonderful. The more she outrages the old biddies, male and female (of whatever age), the more I like it. "Ray of Light" is one of my favourite songs by her!
