(64,637 posts)over about a 9 month period. It snowed at least once while we were there. It's not unheard of.

(26,113 posts)I've only seen sun drenched pix before, never the snowy variety. I NEED to go to southern Europe some time, have been to Belgium, Netherlands, France (Strausbourg and Paris) Germany, Slovenia, & Austria and loved all of them. This year we are going to the Jazz Fest in NO, but next year hope to get to at least some part of southern Europe - Spain, Portugal or Italy or even Greece are the places we're considering.

(26,113 posts)I also really want to spend some time in the Algarve (sp?)region of Portugal. Our kids went there last year and loved it so much! So now really want to go and visit these 2 wonderful areas.

(10,915 posts)The harbor in Marbella is where the Filthy Rich harbor their yachts.
It is what it is nicknamed Costa FORTUNE.
Gibratar is a kick. British everywhere and to enter the country you have to cross the airport runways. When a plane is about to takeoff the railroad gates go down until the plane takes off. Also, on the east side of Gibraltar are where monkeys live. If you don't know anything about the Gibraltar monkeys, do a search on them.

(26,113 posts)The trains are so good, day visits are usually easy so you can see expensive areas where you couldn't afford to stay.

(10,915 posts)Also, there are reasonably priced locations to stay outside of Marbella, but the good hotels, restaurants & beaches are in Marbella.
Enjoy.

(7,964 posts)I've never been to Greece and did not realize the Parthenon sat above the city like that. I do know that it is a symbol of democracy, one that people can look up to.

(27,772 posts)They knew it was going to be chilly, but don't think they expected it to be snowing. They just left the below zero temps the Northeast experienced Saturday.
I actually saw the article this morning and sent it to them via twitter. They're leaving on a Viking cruise around the Aegean Sea tomorrow.
