Anybody still do this? Minor adjustments or repairs to clothes with

pins, safety pins, scotch tape, nail polish, glue, and even staples?

I found myself wanting an extra button so a shirt was a bit less revealing.
Aha! A safety pin!
A few minutes later and I was good to go!

I can't even remember the last time I did something like that.

I used to do it all the time when I was extremely poor and everything I had was basically irreplaceable.

I need to relearn to be thrifty.

Just the other day I noticed that one my sweatshirts from 1988 was still in use....even though in 1994 it had been ripped down the back by an unfortunate tackle in a Thanksgiving Day "touch" football game...

Some others have been sewn and repaired, others have holes and tears that I feel give them "character"...until a garment can no longer serve its intended function - for either modesty or comfort - I keep it going (unless my changed body shape eliminates "fit" from the conversations!). Drives my wife crazy sometimes and my kid's are looking for what comes beyond "cringey" to describe it...but if the shirt fits, wear it!

older than he is.

(And it happens to be true!)

My husband still wears his running gear from his cross-country high school team.

But you reminded me of my youth, my Mom was the unheralded Queen of patches. First sewn on then when they came out iron-on patches of all colors. My work jeans looked like an iron-on quilt.
Thanks for the memories.

Faster, cheaper, and looks as good compared to going to the store and finding a replacement.

As they say, "A stitch in time saves nine!"

work in a pinch Around the house, hair clips and bands work well, too.

I haven't shopped for clothes since March 2019. I lost about 50 lbs, and have done a lot of closet diving, alteration by hand sewing, and safety pins. I don't know what size I am, so I didn't want to shop online.

He had outgrown them by the time he turned 16. I still wear them now even tho my fashion is stuck in 1999.

If I'm desperate and the repair might be seen, I will hand-sew it; otherwise I use the aforementioned McGyvers and kludges to fix my clothes. Nobody sees me most of the time anyhow.

Especially after gaining the “quarantine 15 plus” and my jeans are hard to fasten and really uncomfortable. I wear a long shirt to cover up the zipper that I don’t zip and use an elastic hair tie thru the buttonhole and loop over the button! Makes my jeans much more comfy to wear!

Hem tape is a must. Works for more than just hems. Also, fabric "sew" glue. Safety pins, clear nail polish (top coat), as well as needle and thread with several colors wrapped around a small cardboard piece.
