I staggered out to the lobby and tried to quell it with the drinking fountain.

As I leaned against the wall, gasping, an older gentleman in a wheelchair came by.

"A shot of bourbon'll take care of that!" he exclaimed.

I thought, "Hallelujah! Help has arrived!"

Sadly, he was only making the observation, he didn't actually have any with him.

11. When I was a tyke, my mom pulled a bottle of children's cough syrup off the shelf

I'd asked if the whiskey she laced my tea with when I had a sore throat was a good idea. The ingredients were pretty much sugar, water, aspirin, and alcohol - lots of it

Children's cough syrup was 40 proof!

First time an adult demonstrated to me that a pharmaceutical company could bottle something you made at home for pennies and convince you to pay them for it

And it explained why the tea worked better when dad was doctoring it

April 29, 2022: Departing employee from state liquor warehouse reports to HR that top managers are diverting bottles of liquor for themselves.

June 3: HR investigation begins.

June: HR investigator interviews distribution center director twice.

I'm going to have to do that someday. I always imagine that the best job at the Maker's Mark distillery is the guy who gets to dunk the bottle in the hot red wax. That must be fun.
