Layovers and drive throughs do not count. You have to have spent a minimum of 4 consecutive hours in the state for it to count as a visit.
For me. I've visited 12 states.
NY, NJ, PA, DC, MD, VA, FLA, ILL, CA, OR, WA, and NV
--On edit--
It's 12. I forgot PA.
--Second Edit--
Seems like everyone has been to CA.
--Third Edit--
Wow. DUers are well traveled.

(103,798 posts)So I am going to claim some kind of special case here.
Replace a vacation or social stay with having driven across the state at least five times each way, that should count for we professional drivers!
And especially if you had to wait for freight for more than a day.
With that, it's probably easier to name those I haven't been to.
I'll just go with Hawaii and Alaska. I had spent time and driven through, at least five times each way and/or loaded/delivered freight and probably spent a night or two in all the other 48.
ETA: I have lived in eleven states and been a voter in seven of them.

(36,631 posts)Ev'body knows all you folks do is sing "Convoy", blow your horns, and yell, "Breaker, breaker!" on the radio.
You've been a voter in as many states as I've visited. I've changed tires on trucks from more states than I've visited. Put my wife through her last years in college that way. Truckers would come from far away because the boss insisted on every shiny wheel staying that way and every one of those Daytons running absolutely true -- chalk and oil can. CA, NV, AZ, NM, WY, CO, MT, ID, UT, OR, WA, NY, NJ, PA, OH. Our family took 2 to 3 week tent camping trips to National Parks from the the time I was 10 years old. I stopped going with them when I was 20 and had a job. The east coast states involved visiting my husbands relatives, places where he grew up. My two daughters have traveled with us to almost all of the same states

(4,632 posts)and we've spent multiple days in everyone of the other states, in our motorhome.
We've also stayed from Vancouver Island in the west all the way across Canada to Prince Edward Island in the east for multiple days in each Province or Territory, and have driven our RV to Alaska twice.
We have dipped our fingers or toes in every one of the "Great Lakes".
We flew to Hawaii in 1998 for our 30th anniversary, I'd drive there in the RV, but Pete refuses to build us a highway.
Darn!!!
