He kept filming the last season even as he was dying. Always feels spot on to the Doyle stories.

Spot on, yes, but there's one little addition, I don't even know whether it was conscious and of course we can't ask him now. But Some of the mannerisms of Holmes in the stories, which Brett used and even a little it emphasized, are characteristic of a mild case of adult ADD, which looks very different from classic HADD. That seemed to me like the extra mile.

I thought I’d watched all the Sherlock Holmes movies out there, but just last night I found a 1970 Billy Wilder movie on Amazon called The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes and really enjoyed it. Your post is timely.

The award-winning vintage 1/2 hour Sherlock Holmes TV show with Ronald Howard is available on several free Roku channels; it is a qick fix and amusing. William Gillette (Gillette Castle fame in CT) established many of the mannerisms we associate with Holmes through his stage and screen performances. His 1916 silent film has been recently found and restored. I found the pacing slow by our standards, but it is available for free on YouTube. I also listen to audio books of dramatic readings of Doyle's books and stories from the public library. And, yes, Jeremy Brett is really great so I gifted myself a BritBox subscription.
