The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsToday our monthly phone bill went down over $100 a month.
We sat down with a Comcast guy and switched our cell phones from Verizon to Xfinity, which already had our internet, TV, and landline. We're also getting a big refund for some old equipment we had turned in but were still paying for without realizing it.
Not only am I not affiliated with either company except as a customer, I don't know what the hell it all means and my husband had to drag me kicking and screaming to the appointment. I said I'd rather go to the dentist.
Luckily, he prevailed over my fear of change. I can be stubborn.

(65,042 posts)Xfinity Mobile is carried by Verizon. Comcast has nothing to do with the actual LTE network operation.
I know because I've had everything, including mobile service with them since I retired.
We can have a TV or internet outage & my phone is unaffected.

(65,042 posts)There is a big price difference though. The basic connection to the cell network is free. Xfinity bundles consider that being an ISP is both home & wireless.
So, the cost of paying for internet service includes cellular. It's actually listed on the monthly bill detail as a line item with a cost of $0.00.
Then, we pay for data. I only pay for 1 gig pet month. $12. The only time i stream is when I can tie into my WiFi, so I seldom use more than 800Mb.
Their unlimited plan though, is very competitive with other carriers.
The OP says it saved them a bunch of money. I have no doubt that is true.

(24,480 posts)I assume Xfinity has some repiricol agreement with a cell network?

(65,042 posts)What the OP just signed up for, I've had for years.
Comcast does not own or operate the cellular network. They lease server, switching, and hardwire space from Verizon.
So it is, for all practical purposes, a Verizon phone. Not exactly, but pretty darned close.

(4,011 posts)We got free Moto Ace phones and unlimited talk and text. The free phones were an amazing deal only available for a short time.
They get you on the LTE data. The first gigabyte is free, then $15 per gig.
The phones are constantly using both LTE and WiFi data. It's mostly the Google apps. Can't shut them off.
If you spend too much time away from WiFi, which means the phone draws everything from LTE, it could get costly.
Also, customer service is not so good. It's best to just go to the Xfinity store when there are problems.

(4,660 posts)We will keep an eye on the bill to make sure. Thanks for the warning about customer service; we are walking distance from the store.

(4,011 posts)We pay $15 + tax for four lines, unlimited T&T, and one shared gig of LTE (cell tower) data per month.
It's $15 for the next gig, which we almost never need.
