So they still make automatic toasters? (Original Post) El Supremo Aug 2012 OP
That looks like the "tank" of toasters... hlthe2b Aug 2012 #1
That one isn't that old, I think, because it has wide slots. Honeycombe8 Aug 2012 #2
We go through a lot of bagels, so wide slot is essential. It closes in on bread slices. HopeHoops Aug 2012 #3
I don't eat bagels. It takes longer to toast normal bread 'cause the heating elements Honeycombe8 Aug 2012 #22

I doubt you'll find one of that quality too easily. Lots of plastic stuff, but they do work.

The wide slots started being used a lot only in the last 10 or so years, I think.

I have a Cuisinart toaster. I paid extra to have a quality toaster. Some of the electric heat elements inside just went bad. I'm going to replace it with a cheapie. Waddya bet it lasts longer than the pricey Cuisinart?

I HATE those wide slots. I've looked everywhere for a toaster with normal size slots, but can't find one.

I've never had a problem with the way it toasts bread.

are further from the bread. If the bread is thick, that's not the case.

Does everyone in the country now eat thick bread? Does no one toast regular bread anymore? (besides me)

This brand had wide slots. It automatically lowered the bread slices. There is no lever.

Decades ago, there was a coffee shop on Wilshire Blvd. in Westwood, near UCLA, that had a toaster at each seat at the counter.

The restaurant prided itself on using quality products, and its bread was very good. Still, I marveled at how the bread came out perfectly toasted every single time.

I remember that the toasters were Proctor-Silex, and probably a commercial model not sold to the public. Since then, I've tried--and always failed--to find that Holy Grail of toasters.

What was it? First time I ate there, I was as a kid, with my grandma.

She'd also take us to Beverly Park...

But the story of Beverly Park reminds me of Pacific Ocean Park, or P.O.P, which we loved--and lost. That was a big deal for us Valley boys--while it lasted.

Not as old as the one I used to have. .side slots folded out to hold bread..you hand turned as it toasted. .
But. . on another subject, an old post of yours that I came across had a picture of a T-shirt with a smashed squirrel on the font.
Wherever did you find it??. I am curious. . thanks. .

First. .never put a squirrel in a toaster whole. . that does not work, and tastes like crap. . .
First. . .gut it. . .then skin it. . ( gotta get the hair off. . burned hair stinks! much less tastes horrible. .)
then. . unless you have super wide slots in toaster, or a really skinny squirrel. .you gotta 'smash' it till it fits. .
salt and pepper to taste. . yum!!!

I will put the link at the bottom. .
The reason I was asking is because the artwork on the shirt is mine. .
and it is not from my store where I sell the shirts. . .
I came across it by chance, and was hoping to find the source of where the shirt you posted a picture of had come from.
thanks for any info you have on it. .

My oldest brother found it at the dump in the little town where they lived. I don't think he even had to fix it!

My dad came up with a toaster trick which he'd practice when any new kid came into the kitchen. The toaster was plugged into a outlet which could be controlled by a silent toggle wall switch a few feet away. He would put a piece of bread in the toaster, then stand with his back to the wall switch, and one hand behind his back on the switch. "Abracadabra, toast this bread!" as he lowered the other arm, outstretched. Magically, the toast would slowly lower into the toaster which would begin its heating cycle.
