I have a heavy-duty canvas-like bag for regular groceries and an insulated bag for cold goods. I might get one small plastic bag if I buy anything where the containers might come open.

There are quite a few obstacles to carrying groceries while in a wheelchair. If I hang bags from the back of the chair, then I have to lift the arms up so that the plastic side-guard prevents the bags from getting caught up in the wheels. If too much is loaded it causes the center of gravity to move from beneath my butt to behind my butt--I got a nice conk on the skull when I learned that lesson.

We've been using reusable grocery bags for a decade plus, it's hard to remember exactly. Our local grocer (not a chain) was an early adopter of that trend and started selling reusable bags with their logo on them. They're large capacity, strong, durable, and easy to wash if necessary.

We've been cat-less for a few years since our last one passed away so any plastic bag which comes into our possession now is really a waste (since plastic recycling is basically a lie).

You have to buy the big plastic carry-bags and bring them into the store.

I have a tote that sits in my car and all my bags are lined up in that…different sizes and weight capabilities and a couple bags for wine bottles or olive oil bottles that keep them upright.

I use the paper ones at home to collect glass, plastic, and papers that eventually go into the outdoor recycling bin.

Occasionally I'll forget to take them in the store with me. So then I recycle any plastic ones I do get.

Both supermarkets in town.
They used to ask "paper or plastic?" Not for several years now.
I just don't put bigger items in bags. 3# coffee cans, large cans of tomatoes, 5# bag of rice, etc.
I just put them back in the cart as is.
I do use the bags that I do get for picking up dog poop.

I'm addicted to Clamato. I go through a couple half-gallon bottles, every 10 days. And, right across the aisle at our bigger supermarket is the coffee creamer my wife uses. Also, half gallon.
I don't bag those, especially since if I don't say something, they double bag them.
I go from 4 bags to none.

I have been to a few stores and restaurants that still provide them. I've always used the plastic bags to clean the litter boxes too.

I once got a plastic bag that got stuck and melted on my muffler on a previous vehicle. My vehicle must have picked it up on a windy day and got stuck. Even after I took it to a shop to be removed, the smell of burning plastic in that vehicle never went away. After that awful and smelly incident, I don't care if plastic bags are banned.

We have reusable shopping bags that we carry in our vehicles and we have an arsenal of paper bags that I use to get for free that I keep in my vehicle.
