walk. All was fine until the wind picked up on the second part of the walk. Three transformers went off on the street and a wire and tree came down. We cut through a neighbor's yard to get away. As we were running home, we were running into the wind. The wind ripped my raincoat off. I felt like I was in the Wizard of Oz. Luckily neither of us were hurt. But I forgot I could run that fast, especially when the hail came down. Tried to close the gate but the wind had a hold of it. Has anyone had severe wind storms in your area? This happened yesterday. And Dolly was running like crazy.

(60,612 posts)the house. I am so grateful we made it home. I just suddenly picked up. It was the transformers blowing off as we had just walked under one then another . We were running through a yard when the third blew.

(3,639 posts)With almost no humidity in the area, we have dozens of wildfires all over the state. Lots of property loss, but no lives, thankfully. Several were in the greater Oklahoma City area. At one point, there were 30,000+ customers without power because of the fires and downed power lines. We'd supposed to have the same thing happen on Tuesday, Hopefully it's not a repeat of Friday.

(102,789 posts)We had a mini version of the thing that passed over the midwest on Friday. We had a very nice, much warmer than predicted day, most of the day though windy... normal for here. But around 5pm, the wind kicked up and while it was still +45F, icy snow pellets blasted everything until it became full on snow. The wind was a constant 50+mph. Came on as fast as yours did.
Then it snowed sideways, I could see it blasting through my porch! The door frame to my go outside door was caked with hard packed snow, still has a lot there. This happened a few times through the night. Still windy as heel but sunny now but +32F. It did stay above that until about an hour ago. Should get up around 40 again today.

(60,612 posts)why I wore the raincoat. We didn''t have any snow. I called it hail, but it was more like ice pellets. It was shitty running into them as they hitting my face. Very nice day. Didn''t have have a hat on either. It came very suddenly.

(102,789 posts)A couple times starting in the early morning and, though they said it would be windy, there were no warnings or watches.

(46,155 posts)We had a wind storm in Colorado last Thursday. Gusts up to 80mph. I foolishly took my dog out for a walk, unaware of the storm.
Hes a big ole sweetheart, weighs 70 lbs. In just a few minutes a gust hit us, and he almost got knock over! We ran back to the house and locked ourselves up tight and cuddled on the sofa.
Very scary about the three transformers! So glad you two are safe.
We have another big windstorm predicted today. Definitely not going outside!

(60,612 posts)My raincoat doesn't have buttons, but these silver hooks. One side was completely taken off. The other side, I had Dolly's lease in my hand. So the whole coat didn't fly off. Be safe my friend.

(60,612 posts)out--the blasts of bombs-transformers blowing up, sirens going off, running for cover. The fright. When I got home. I was grateful that this was a freak happening and not an everyday occurrence. And in other parts of our country, where there is no place to hide and your life and all you have is gone.

(25,409 posts)I'm not sure when the chimney went. I found it in pieces in the backyard the next day and didn't know what it was at first.
Central Illinois. We've had a series of strong storms in the area over the last couple of weeks.

(60,612 posts)reach tornado wind speeds and cause as much damage. Because there is no funnel, it is classified as a microburst. We had one in our neighborhood. Trees uprooted, roofs torn off, patio furniture all over the place. One woman, sadly, was killed when her roof collapsed. I wish you luck and I am glad you are okay.

(25,409 posts)It looks like a tornado has gone through, but it is just a concentrated burst of wind. They can blow your car off the road.
