Anyone get a racing heart when they have strong coffee? I

just did. Really strange. I'm 57 and it has never happened before. Is it a regular thing? Is it dangerous? I don't have ca heart condition.

I used to drink 2 double espressos every morning. I stopped not because of the jolt they gave me but because it was raising hell with my digestive system.

but it happens regularly when I take Sudafed. Have you taken that or anything else like it? I wouldn't worry if it doesn't happen again, or if it went away on its own fairly quickly. (former cardiology nurse here)

I did a stress test to rule out any heart issue. It was just the caffeine.
Be aware that caffeine can build up and accumulate in your system. It takes a week or so to really clear it out. Maybe take a break!

me to ER. I refused. Connected the dots about the soda I'd never used before, drove home, took to bed, drank water, eventually subdued. Didn't know what I was doing but it worked out. The doc sounded like they were going to do open heart or something. The soda was delicious, never used it again.

also, and this sounds weird, run a sink of water, add some ice... and dunk your face in the ice water. The shock may "reset" your hear rate back to normal.

Wolfe-Parkinson-White syndrome is nothing to fool around with and can express itself later in life (you may have lived years with this heart defect and never have known it.

One cup in the morning is my limit. I'm 69 and it's been that way my entire adult life. If I drink more it will not go well for the people around me.

In my 50’s I could drink coffee all day long. I’m in my 60’s now and 3 cups per day is the most I can drink without getting some irregular beats.

Doesn't stop me. If it bothers you, I would definitely cut back. Maybe talk to your care provider about it, especially if you haven't gone in a while?
