(54,430 posts)food bank? Is it weekly or monthly? I didn't know you had to pay for county transportation. I thought all you needed was a Medicare card and it was free.

(65,819 posts)My friend has had a hectic schedule and cant come until the food money comes in anyway. She thought it was a good idea but cant come. One in Phoenixville is quite good and even has Trader Joe stuff. There is no Lyft/Uber money. I did get a ride to the doctor from one of those church charities, so that is an improvement. I hate to ask again already but might have to.
The depression is worse. The close psychiatry place has been booked up with a long waiting list. If I could get to the food pantry soon that would be great. This is when I finally ran out of food. I am a bit mad at my friend for not coming when she agreed with the plan.
Thanks for asking.

Give him or her a call, now. Leave a message. Tell them youre almost out of food and cant get to a food bank. Call again in the morning.
If you cant get to a food bank, how on earth can you get to the store? If you can get to the store then you can get to the food bank.
CALL THE SOCIAL WORKER.

(51,308 posts)I will post links to all your other OPs asking for money tomorrow.
Another DUer pointed out you raised over 10 grand here, so something is just not right.
Here is a suggestion, anyone who wants to help you out can send you grocery cards. You can use them for food. That will help, right?
Let us know how to send those to you, ok?

(15,769 posts)Food giftcards.
As for being mad at this friend, she's doing a yeoman's job, driving, giving money. Maybe she has some problems of her own.

(15,769 posts)Capabilities of setting up. Mind blowing.
BlackSkimmer
(51,308 posts)It's VERY easy to get set up.
Frequently we would get calls from neighbors concerned that someone wasn't getting food. So we would reach out and see if we could help. I worked in a mountainous area with lots of cranky old mountain people who would not dream of asking for help. Frequently they would turn us down, but we did try.
Obviously the OP is not in the least bothered about asking for help, so meals on wheels is a great idea!
That might be an idea...we could call his local meals on wheels people (who are very connected to social services) and let them know that there is a vulnerable adult at risk for food shortage. They will check it out immediately.

(15,769 posts)Debiliating depression, falling down the stairs, water and electricity problems with it being unpaid, numerous ER visits due to stress...this is an elderly person who deserves better. Social Security is meant for the recipient who earned it, not supporting adult offspring who won't even get a Pt job to help.

(51,586 posts)24. Here are the previous GFMs you've posted.
There are discrepancies that have caught my and others' eye.
You offered to give hearts away to folks right after saying the electricity was going to be cut off, and now the water is going to be cut off.
Maybe put money like that toward your utilities?
Here are the previous GFMs for anyone interested:

And then there is this month's GFM. As another poster pointed out, you still have a couple of the previous ones open.

(51,308 posts)There's also an interesting thread where he says he received a trust after his father's death, and he mentions pensions for both mom and dad?

(23,387 posts)Social Security disability. And at least where I live, there are all sorts of rides and food and other things besides government help. I have a friend who can call before 5 PM the day before, and the county or state or some thing will pick him up directly at his door and drop him somewhere and then pick him up and take him home after that.
The only thing about food pantries is you may have to cook something

(54,430 posts)free at the pantry? Maybe I am missing something but I think I am. Good luck.

(65,819 posts)So I can pay for a ride where the food would be free. I did use the parish I used before for a ride to the doctor. The older guy I had before likely died but they can schedule you sometimes. Other times I need Lyft due to not having a car. I hope that helps.

As a side note, I just finished doing all of our taxes. My youngest son grossed $24,000 last year working only 3 days a week.

(34 posts)That these donations are coming from DU. Its either seed money or his fundraising plea is cross posted to many sites.
On another note, my teenage son (who uses his part time job money for this) has told me theres a new video game out.

(15,769 posts)J-O-B . many, many places can place disabled in probably WFH jobs. Even PT.
EACH STATE has a Dept. Of Vocational Rehabilitation that tests, assesses, trains, and places the disabled in jobs. For free. I'm sure United Way can help get that ball rolling.
Is not working better than these constant crises about money? Shit, I worked 37 years disabled. Come on, man.
Sometimes you just gotta get a job.

(65,819 posts)The money gotten was a huge help. I am closing this thread soon if it doesnt just drop. Might as well let the fundraiser play out.
Now my hot water heater is not working. But not starting another fundraiser. I will see what else I can do.

(34 posts)Foreclosures, trust funds, social worker, no social worker, broken toilets, stores too far to walk to even though youre starving, no drinkable water, ebt late, friends who wont provide a ride to a food pantry, $10,000 in previous fundraisers
is there a spreadsheet you use to reference all of this?
The one consistency is the absolute refusal to seek employment. The employment economy is doing well. Everyone is hiring and almost everyone is paying $15.00 minimum per hour.

(34 posts)I know if I had an elderly, sickly widowed neighbor with a disabled son, house in foreclosure, and they were without food and needed a ride to the free food pantry, I would help out in a minute.
Its rather odd that none of their neighbors feel the same way.

(65,819 posts)It is 10 years old and someone gave a free consultation. He says the pilot light is broken and the water heater needs to be replaced. Of course I dont have $5,000 for that. But the first thing I am trying is house buyers. Need to move anyway.
debm55
(54,430 posts)you should get a second opinion. Places that offer free consultations are usually scams. I think we paid 800 for ours and that was with installment. Good luck.
mvd
(65,819 posts)It was Roto-Rooter, so it wasnt a scam, but I dont trust that opinion either. He didnt even mention possible repair costs.

(54,430 posts)Suit against them, but I only thought they were in Pittsburgh. They are a scam. --free consultation and the prices are outrageous. They prey on the elderly and around the holidays when people are really in need. If you check out the Better Business Bureau, you will find the number of conplaints against them. They charge one elderly person 30,000 to have her sewage line cleaned out. www.KDKA.com was really on their tail and helped with the suit. I haven't heard or seen their ads, I thought they were run out of town. I guess they were. Yes, Matt, they are a scam artists. Repeat-do not use them.

(65,819 posts)I greatly appreciate DU but it seems some just dont understand. If you get tired of these, it is nothing like being in this situation. Asking for continued good vibes that mom feels better and that we have a more stress free life.
