(252,221 posts)Whenever I see a pic of a full grown human in an Easter Bunny costume, it brings back an early trauma. When I was really little, definitely a pre-schooler, my mother took me to some store where they had a Easter Bunny. Now I knew what a bunny looked like, but the one I saw there wasn't even close. It was a full grown human in a costume, fake head, ears and all. And I must have been really little since they picked me up and I could see a human head through the translucent eyes. I found that very disturbing and not at all what I expected.
They were very nice, gave all the children a prize and took a group photo with this so-called "Bunny." But it was weird enough to me that I still remember the traumatic experience all these years later...

(779 posts)When my daughter was young, we never managed get the requisite photo with Santa at Christmastime. She was too scared. (Of course, we had drilled the "Stranger Danger" theme repeatedly with her, so this was no surprise.)
On the other hand, she loved stuffed animals and had no qualms of hugging people dressed up in animal costumes at places like children's bookstores (think: Angelina Ballerina).
One Easter in the early 1990s, we were visiting her grandmother in Falmouth, MA at the local mall. At one end was a Bradlee's store and at the other end was a clothing store. In between these stores, at that time, were a bunch of empty storefronts. As we walked from the Bradlee's to the other end, there was a corner section set up for the Easter Bunny. Knowing my daughter's aversion to seeing Santa, we continued to walk past until she stopped and insisted on seeing and hugging the Easter Bunny. We consented but her mother and I were a bit appalled when we got up close an saw that the character's costume was so dirty! Needless to say, we did a quick wipe down of our daughter after we moved on to the next store.
Ah, the joys of parenthood!!

(42,769 posts)smoking behind the store on break. His bunny head was hanging on his back like hoodie.
I wasn't traumatized, though, because I had caught our neighbor pretending to be Santa. When he came over on Christmas Eve, I said "You're not Santa. You're Eldon. I can tell 'cuz of your wedding ring."
I still laugh, thinking of the looks on my parents' faces.

(27,792 posts)On. A. Test! He strung together a flouride compound, a propyl compound, four human stick people, and an ether compound, and aked us to identify it. The answer (which NOBODY got):
a "flouride propyl people-ether"!
