She just looks at me and keeps walking. It's not like I expect an answer, but i still do it. Do you talk to your pet or is just me. She smiles at me and cuddles me and tilts her head. Neighbors look at me strange but I still do it.

(14,648 posts)They all answer me. Sometimes the horse thinks what I said was funny and her reply sounds just like a laugh.
One of the cats not only answers, she chatters back at me. Its the cutest thing.

They may not understand the deeper concept of the words, but they will react to words such as "walk", "treat", "vet", "home", people's and animal's names, "play", various commands, and many more.
Supposedly, cats also understand, they will just choose not to respond.

(302 posts)My odd-(pet)sense tells me that they do (actually) understand, but are not able to respond(speak) 'human'; therefore and most-often, they simply continue-on hoping that you/us(humans) eventually figure out their actions.
And I sincerely hope your tooth(pain)ache has lessened...Best always, Ahna.

(14,648 posts)My cat crawled under the very low bottom shelf of the bathroom closet while I was putting things away. When I was finished, I looked down and asked, Do you want to come out now? She did the purring-talking thing and then crawled out. She knew exactly what I was asking and answered appropriately.
Gotta love them. 🥰

(9,258 posts)..my "talking to the kitty" voice. She recognizes it. She likely has not much idea what I'm saying but she knows when I'm talking to her!

(9,258 posts)They say 'slow blinks' communicate love to cats. It's basically how you say 'I love you' to a cat.

i know he hears me too. If I say "walk" out loud, he begins spinning and tapping his feet. I not only talk to him, but I spell it out if I am not planning to follow through with an actual walk, so he doesn't get confused and crestfallen.

Mostly, by general consensus, is that feral pigs must die so we can eat them.
