(22,486 posts)the summers were very harsh because of the bugs and how they wore long sleaves to protect them from the bugs.
But some Skin So Soft would do wonders!!!

(931 posts)The Yamal Peninsula sits in Northern Russia near the Kara Sea almost halfway across the county if you are going from west to east. It has basically a tundra/subarctic climate. The Nenets, the indigenous people there, are a Uralic/Samoyedic group natives to that part of Russia. But because it sits right in the middle of the continent, and is influenced by the Siberian High, it has widely varying temperatures, from as low as -58 up to 90 degrees in some instances. But as cold as that is, even that isn't the coldest area. The Yakuts/Sakha, a Turkic ethnic group, live in places where it can get below -70 F, cold enough for chlorine to become a liquid and bromine to become a solid. But lately the summer temperatures have been getting up to 100 degrees. So yeah, Siberia is known for extreme temperature changes.
I wouldn't want to be in those cold temperatures. It's amazing people can live and survive in those extreme climates. Skin could freeze in minutes, and you could get hypothermic quickly. By the way, that is not counting wind chill. There doesn't even have to be wind to experience wind chills. Even in a calm windless day, if you are out there in those temperatures and you are using for example a snowmoblie moving at 15 mph, the rushing air coming through would be the same as if you were not moving and you were in winds of 15 mph.

(86,685 posts)Started out at a much younger age, I could probably get into that. I have lived in some pretty extreme places, that one would be fine with the furs and the yurts. I could do it.
Not now, of course, I'm too old and soft.
