Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsQuestion for bird lovers. I have been finding peanuts still in the shell near my pine tree a
home to blue jays. Do you think it's possible to fly with an unshelled peanut. Or do you think it might be from another type of animal, maybe a squirrel or chipmunk? They are just laying in the grass. Thank you
Edit --Thank you everyone for telling me about birds and peanuts in shells. It is great to ask a question and get an answer. So add that to the list of things I know about--birds can eat shelled peanuts.

(41,098 posts)cuz the neighbor's dog is allergic to peanuts & the birds don't always drop the shells in our yard. We get them raw at the garden supply store. But since we switched we don't get crows anymore. They used to be a regular visitor in the morning, sometimes hammering away on our roof to open the shells.
I wondered if they don't see the peanuts now.

(61,723 posts)and watched the most beautiful array of birds eating the seeds. So you don't think it's the blue jays. We do have owls and hawks here(turkeys also, but haven't seen them lately.)
