The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsOh man! Just learned that one of my housemates from the sixties in Hollywood died in January.
We hadnt spoken since 1970. He was an exceptional drummer who played in a few garage bands and did session work. He also sat in with a variety of groups on tour. Taking drugs fucked up his life and career. His other roommate and I both moved out in 70 due to his bullshit. At some point he moved back to our hometown where he died. As I understand it, he never again played professionally. Over the years I tried unsuccessfully to contact him. Im unsure of the circumstances of his death. I just hope he went peacefully.

(28,485 posts)I'm going to guess that you learned about this death thanks to the internet.
I have been very grateful for the internet in letting me know about various deaths of people I know. I can think of several that I might never have heard about were it not for FB.
And yes, I also hope he went peacefully.

I did find one a couple of weeks ago, bad alcoholic, looking his age but with clear eyes and big grin.
I won't contact him, but it made me stupidly happy to see that he'd gotten it together at some point.

(4,085 posts)can destroy many very talented people. Drugs cost me a few friends; alcohol cost me a husband. I admit I've tried both, but never developed any habit. I never want to judge anyone who has addiction issues; I've seen the pains they endure.

Some really good people.
Some losses I'll never get over.

I've lost friends and family members to them, too. Two were teenagers.
I hope your friend died peacefully. And that he was able to get his life turned around enough to find joy and purpose, even though the early problems ended his music career.
