I keep getting text messages supposedly from the USPS that they tried to deliver a package to me but were not able to. The text has a link for me to click on for further instruction or explanation.
How would the USPS have my cell phone number to text a message to me? No, I have not clicked on the link. I don't even read the texts any more. I've received about 6 of them so far.
In the past, I have had packages sent to me that were too large for my mail box. The post office left a card, like a post card, in my mail box to notify me.

(20,259 posts)I signed up for them on the USPS website. They notify me when a letter is being delivered. Most of the time it's for someone else because I get all my bills online.

(35,485 posts)already received. It is a scam, why would the US Postal Service send an e-mail instead of a letter or leave a note in my mailbox?

(2,522 posts)Text messages from USPS,FedEx, UPS, even DHL. They claim to have a package for me but I have to correct the shipping adress. If you follow the link, they will ask for the standard shipping information. Of course there are charges due so they need a valid credit card. So far, never more than a couple of dollars. Just an enticement to get your cc number.
While I do recieve shipments from all of those companies, none have ever come with a balance due.

(7,286 posts)They wouldnt. Because the USPS did not text you.
Whoever it was most likely hacked some other site and got your number. Maybe Facebook, Twitter, or even a friend of yours who had your number and got hacked getting ALL the numbers in their directory. There are companies that do just that and sell them to anyone who wants and will pay for them.
And theres not much you can do other than what you are doing - being careful, and alert for the scam.

(9,925 posts)a bunch of texts from USPS recently about undeliverable packages. Scams. One of the addresses that come attached to it is a russian site. Nowadays it seems like I get more scams than legitimate correspondence from companies.
This stuff seems to go in waves. For awhile there it was Amazon telling me they couldn't deliver the iPad I ordered. Unfortunately for them, I got the iPad I ordered three years ago without a problem, so this was obviously bogus.
