And See All the Sites in Chicago, the Lake Front is beautiful.!!!If you didn't know it ......Chicago borders on Lake Michigan. & the parks and beaches are incredible!!
My father took to the museum there 70 years ago. If in Chicago, go to this museum if you have the time. Yes, it is worth the
expense of going in. Wonderful museum and very large with lots of exhibits. Yes, about science and all kinds of science.
It has an old main street, baby chicks hatching, and many other exhibits. (as well as a great model train exhibit)
And a tour through a coal mind and a German U Boat submarine.

(38,726 posts)Located on Chicago's Lake front. 5500 South.. Chicago has many fine museums and a beautiful lake front along
Lake Michigan. Lots of parks on the lakefront, and many parks where you can park the car and walk along the
lake. You can watch the sun rise over the lake if you get there early enough and that alone as a magnificant
site. Again lots of places to park along the lakefront and trails to walk on...................................
Here is a great adventure.......pick a clear unclouded day.....and watch the sunrise over the lake front in one
of Chicago's lakefront park, then drive around to the other side of Lake Michigan and watch the sunset over
Lake Michigan. Two incredible sites in one day....About 150 miles to ride to watch the sunset over the Lake
Michigan in Michigan. ....A magnificent thing to do, if you can do it. That is...........................
Watching a sunrise over a magnificent body of water, and then......watching the sunset over the same body of
water on the other side of the lake. ...Yes it can be done, if you are willing to drive the distance.

(76,704 posts)...the Art Museum & the Adler Planetarium.
Lars39
(26,540 posts)though I felt like I could have spent a week at each one lol
ProfessorGAC
(76,704 posts)If I'm not mistaken, the Art Museum has the largest collection of Impressionist art after the Musee d' Orsay.
The planetarium telescope is useless now, due to the massive light pollution, but they have a 180° projectoon system that converts the inner wall of the dome into a wonderful space screen.
Also, I forgot to mention the Shedd Aquarium.
Natural History, Adler, & Shedd are all within very easy walking distance. Not in January, though!

(76,704 posts)We had a really mild winter this year. I'm not expecting next year to duplicate.
electric_blue68
(26,856 posts)it was like the Carribean or Hawaii.
I figure lnid-late May would be nice. Things greened up but not yet hot!
Yeah we had a mild winter w not much snow. It was kind of nice, but surprising! Maybe th least snow ever? Must look up. Don't expect again

(26,540 posts)Been a while since I was at the planetarium. I have to make sure I don't go with "racy" people to the museums. You know, the kind that races through it as fast as they can.
I like to stand awhile and drool at the art, etc.

(26,856 posts)I love to take my time for most art, science, history, or nature stuff.
I love going to The Smithsonian and other museums in 🧡 D C.!

(26,540 posts)We were literally turning out pockets, purses, and backpacks for spare change to make cab fare! The cabbie was so gracious about getting a lot of change and no tip. I felt horrible about it. I think he just put us down in the "rubes" category going by our southern accents. lol

(26,856 posts)When I had my one visit down South GA Atlanta area, and my friend took me to meet his friends (in college) they were asking me to "talk Yankee!".
Oh, I wasn't offended in any way. 👍🙂
When I came back after ?5 days I had a Southern lilt for about 4 days. Not so unusual also bc back in the late '60s, early "70s NYC still had a lot of the older, and middle aged African-Americans who'd come up from The South. I'd hear the various lilts riding on the buses esp younger when U wasn't allowed yet o ride the subway alone; which to me sounded the same - "Southern". So my ear, and brain were kind of tuned to it already.
But when I went cross-country my bus mates would say "really?! You don't sound like a New Yorker."!
Mystified! Could only think I didn't sound like ?
"Toidy Toid Street" some very heavy ?Brooklyn accent
from the movies. 😀
Lars39
(26,540 posts)but I guess I have more southern phrases.

(76,704 posts)It's been a long time since I've been there, but I can't recall a time I went that I didn't enjoy.
Do you remember the early computer they had playing tic-tac-toe against the patrons.
I thought that was so amazing when I was a kid!
Do they still do "Christmas Around The World" in December?

(26,856 posts)I wonder if (will google) the MapEasy editions are still around.
Wonderful combination of a map (+ sometimes a close up section) that has little drawings of major, and smaller Interestng places to visit, annual events to attend or icons for hotels, markets, shops etc.
I bought one for D.C., and Phillidephia.
ETA: I see one for Chicago.
And Paris.
Since my aunt took me to Paris I should get it for the memories.
Yeah, we did get to the 👍 Musee Or'sey, The 🧡 Louvre, and
? L'Orangie (Monet 🥰 Waterlillies).
ProfessorGAC
(76,704 posts)I'm no art expert, but I know what I like. Impressionism does it for me.
At the Louvre, I liked the statuary more than all the Renaissance art. (And, the Mona Lisa, of course.) I've been to Paris 7 or 8 times and only went to the Louvre twice. d'Orsay every time.
electric_blue68
(26,856 posts)At the Lourve there were wonderful landscapes in Renaissance and other realistic styles. Unfortunately I didn't write down the names of those artists who's works I'd never seen before.
I don't remember the statues very much except when we turned from a semi wide hallway into a big
open area and to our left was The Winged Victory!
My joyous gasp of surprise!
It'd been in the back of my mind having looked it up; but us literally putting our stuff down after train from Switzerland, lunch at the station, taxi to hotel, resting for a somewhat of time we were off to The Lourve!
It was no longer in that location that the Internet had shown so it was a total surprise.

(39,899 posts)I remember walking on a catwalk into a sound room that had total 100% sound absorbing material on one wall, and nothing on the other. I got kinda disoriented, almost dizzy, and marveled at how much one depends on sound for simple navigation.
Mostly, I remember the glorious ballgame at the storied Wrigley Field. I was able to get all my subs off the job site early, and hoofed it ten blocks up Clark Street to the park. Bleachers, under the coolest scoreboard in MLB, sixth inning, tied score, sunny. That game went extra innings with the Mets winning their 100th game of the season; they went on to win the pennant. I believe it was also the last year before they installed lights.
ProfessorGAC
(76,704 posts)After they went to night games, they gradually transformed that area.
There are thousands of people there at night for away games! Amaz8ng transformation over the last 25 years or so.

And did they mess with the scoreboard with all the remodeling? Is it still manually operated?
