starting to read an article by a super fan on Sprinsteen's live performances.
His live mission continues to be the same as when he first began. This is what he told the audience at the MusicCares Person of the Year event in 2013: I wanted to be great more than anything else, and I wanted to be important in your life. Because you keep us in search of the force that reignites our gifts, our ability to make you want to move, to dance, to love, to make love, to be angry, to act. When we play, we want the hair to stand up on your arms; *we want you to feel the glory. And we want you to be glad of being alive.*
(Bold/Ital/* my emphasis)
"...It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive!". /Badlands
Interesting, bc having read Bruce's autobiography he does suffer off & on from depression.
I probably wouldn't exactly call myself often a happy person (too much anxiety at times). I do, thank goodness(!!!!!) often have minutes, hours, occasionally in the past even a few days at a time of joy, and great and deep joy.
It seems to me that when he's not in a depressive state he's very capable of feeling the joys, and pulse of life.
So I love this quote.

Wrapped up in one fine human being. His music makes my toe tap, my feet move and my heart melt with glory days of my own. His emotions, feeling up or down, is his gift to us and Im so glad

And Clarence Clemons despairing, defiant, and ultimately, triumphant saxophone interlude is a crowning touch of musical genius.
I had the pleasure of hearing it in concert once. Which considering I've been to 10 Bruce concerts, was pretty lucky. He doesn't play it a lot.

(17,520 posts)3. The range of emotions conveyed as well as his energy in concert--astonishing
He never took breaks, kept playing, moving
And I realized how many different emotions were conveyed through the songs, fantastic.
