Please, suggest your favorites for the group. Reminisce. Whatever.
The 60's had such a profound influence on our country and our politics.
Not saying it was all tie dye and roses. But...
I'm guessing there are some here who were actually around when this revolution took place.
Imagine that! Please, share your 60's Psychedelic Rock wisdom. We'll all be dead one day.
Here's two I'm currently diggin:
(starts slow, it's worth it though...)
Kinda harsh, but I'm into 'the electricity' now. Sounds cool.

I was always pushing boundries...

(39,899 posts)I saw the Charlatans at Muir Beach. Truth be told, the other bands were destined for greatness while the Charlatans got the footnotes. On the upside, we got Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, and that was a pretty good deal if you ask me.

(43,850 posts)Now every time I drive by the big (gorgeous) house they were staying in at the time I think of them staring out the dormer window at the gray Seattle winter and I get it even more. Apparently the house was owned by their manager and he'd sequestered them there for a while, and clearly it did not sit well.

(14,378 posts)This period of rock saw thousands of musicians attracted to the LA area ( and San Francisco) LOVE was more or less LA based and gigged relentlessly in my home turf. Saw them more times than I can count.

(14,378 posts)These guys rented a house in my neighborhood, and Ron Bushy bought one up the street after the "InagaddaDavida " megahit money came in. But early Iron Butterfly was awesome. They played everywhere they could, especially teen centers all over California and Arizona. This strategy gave them a HUGE following.

(14,378 posts)Spirit was among a group of musicians that hung in Topanga Canyon. During the 60's my pals and I lived at the northern terminus of the canyon, and I used to spend many evenings at places like the Moonfire Inn. I met Bob Hite and Fito De La Parra there. Joni Mitchell and Steven Stills were frequent visitors there as well as the Mermaid inn.. So were the Byrds, and Arthur Lee.

(1,957 posts)While they managed to pack almost every kind of musical instrument in those years(The Beatles were a huge influence in musical instruments from around the world) it was the words that "made the scene". Kids would sit around a record player and listen to the song, pick out certain words and gently argue what the meaning was. It was a time of turmoil when those who preached peace were often labeled as "commies". Young men were often forced to go to war or called a coward from some of the very idiots of today who found a way to avoid the draft back then. It was a time of rebellion, flower children and some who started thinking about recycling,"make love not war" and it all came out in the music. Some of the music was angry or anti war. Some used the music as a recording head shop while others like Dylan used words with the music to describe their feelings. Many could not describe their anguish but found the words in the music.

While music fans continue to cry over the abscence of Rush and other prog rock B listers from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it's psychedlic rock that is the most overlooked genre. The first three are definite entries in my opinion, and if there was ever a one album group that deserved entry it would be the last one.
