I held models of Canon and Nikon cameras before purchasing and found the Canon was more intuitive in terms of where all of the features were placed. Both take great photos, so I wasn't worried about image quality as a factor.

Thats how I found out I really liked my (slightly heavier) Canon.
But in my olden days, Minolta was my machine of choice. Back in the last century.
