I do. PA's only pull out-patient call, which basically means helping the patient out over the phone. Aristus May 2023 #2

No need to go to a hospital or anything.

It comes with its own pitfalls, though. After hours call is supposed to be for emergencies only, but patients have a funny way of deciding for themselves what constitutes an emergency.

I'll get a call at, like, one in the morning. "Hi, I need a refill on my medication." - Me: *yawn, grumble, grumble* "How long have you been out of your medication?" - "Oh, about three weeks." - And they couldn't have called the clinic during office hours at any time during those three weeks?

One time, at the height of COVID-19 I got a call at three on the morning: "Hi, I just have some questions about COVID." i nearly came unglued. He just had some questions? They couldn't have waited five hours until I was in the clinic and could answer them for him then? And I needed sleep in order to be alert for clinic!

Too many people have gotten away for too long with abusing the system. I've started to remind casual callers that the line is for emergencies only.

Happens to me as well. We have a bigger crew now so my week of on-call duty is pushed out...but there was a time when I ended up with on-call on New Years eve 2 years in a row....SAD!

This is the first time I've pulled call in nearly three months.

Used to be every six weeks or so, so I've had a bit of a break.

I'm sure you will find ways to celebrate the weekend anyway. Have fun and hope the on-call duties end up being a dud.

We’re anchored north of St. Augustine and there’s a gale blowing in from the Atlantic. We’re experiencing 25-30 knot winds and it’s a bit bouncy. I’ll want to be alert so no Friday night buzz for me. Sigh.

See you next week!

She keeps getting up in the mornings and going back to work, so she's dealing with it.
