and by golly, my sister's black lab ALWAYS lays like that on the floor - splayed with both legs completely extended back. In fact, when my BIL walks him and the lab has had enough, he'll just splay himself right there on the sidewalk and won't move.

but while lying splayed on their stomachs to expose the most surface area to radiate heat. This squirrel looks like a handful though and its rare that any animal will expose its belly like that unless they are comfortable with the human they are with.

This flying squirrel's belly appears to still be furry. This type of flying squirrel may be one of those sold in the pet trade in China and other countries (?)

In the wild, regular young squirrels do play with sticks in a similar way, but this particular captive flying squirrel seems to be concentrating on spreading out those skin flaps against the ceramic tiles.

like my sister's kitty is doing right now (shedding like mad) who I have been watching the past week while sis has been on vacation. It would seem more efficient to do heat transfer from the front vs the back though, unless there is maybe a ceiling fan (or even a handheld battery-operated portable fan) turned on in there off camera.

that was a "practice stretch" since it would be difficult to get into that position any other way indoors!

I was looking at some of the twitter replies and someone indicated they could "hear Mandarin" being spoken in the background, so possibly a video from someone who is Chinese.

I'd have threatened to rub his tummy, that always worked on a cat who was sprawled out like that.

I did love the "splat!" position.
