I put my tablet on an the majority of shows on Netflex was either horror movies or crime shows. Don't you get frightened?
I can handle crime shows if they are not too graphic, but not horror movies.

(4,671 posts)show, series, movie, but the crime genre just keeps getting more and more violent causing me to jump right back to the 'puter for more DU news or catch up on posts by friends and family on social media.

(130,538 posts)Not horror movies so much, unless they're the spooky kind and not the gory kind. They don't scare me any more - the last few that did were The Night of the Hunter, Carrie, and Prince of Darkness. Those gave me nightmares but I guess I don't scare as easily these days.

(44,738 posts)And thats not a criticism. Well Produced, excellent acting, lots of crime, lots of horror. And the never ending soundtrack is effective.
I started watching Chicago PD because of the violence. I stopped watching for awhile because of the violence.

(57,835 posts)crime non-fiction. I'm fascinated by what motivates people to vicious cruelty.

(27,835 posts)I've been a fan of true crime books for decades - now equally addicted to true crime shows.
I'm always intrigued by the machinations murderers will put themselves through in order to maintain their innocence.

(130,538 posts)and the victims are always murdered in strange ways (not a lot of gore is shown), often at a county fair or some other community gathering. The body is typically found by a woman who screams a lot. DCI Barnaby is brought in to solve the murder, and while he's investigating there's one or two more murders that are somehow related to the first one. Often the motivation is an inheritance and/or an affair, or an unknown child. Sometimes there's incest, kinky sex and mad vicars. The murder rate in this part of England is worse than Mogadishu.

(2,317 posts)And some of the best shows in the past few years have been horror-centric. The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix is outstanding. And The Conjuring movies (I and II) are well worth the watch.

(10,193 posts)I like seeing how they catch the perpetrator. I find it fascinating. OTOH, I've never liked horror movies - most of them are just too gross for me.

(10,180 posts)No on the horror movies but I'm addicted to True Crime!
In fact, I'm watching past episodes of Dateline (on Peacock) now. I also am intrigued by what in the world causes people to do what they do. And, some of these murderers are SOOOOOOOOOOOO stupid.

(33,349 posts)that some of the folks answering this question in the affirmative might have an interest in a history podcast about the connection between true crime and the arts, I am going to shamelessly provide the link to my youngest son's podcast discussing just that: https://www.artofcrimepodcast.com/
The first season of his podcast was devoted to artists who had been suspected of being the notorious and never caught Jack the Ripper. The second, and current season, is focused on artists connected in some way to being assassins. The episode that just dropped last week concerns a German artist who was implicated in an assassination attempt on Hitler. That episode is one of his favorites that he's produced so far this season, and is fascinating.
My son has always been intrigued with both horror and true crime, to the extent that his dissertation at Yale was focused on the staging of horror from 1794-1931 in London theatre.

(6,586 posts)movies that are creepy, but not graphic.
