whisperer? Was there something wrong with Wilbur-did he just imagine it because he had had no one else to talk to?? What is your theory on why Wilbur and Mr. Ed could talk to each other?? Thank you.

(131,199 posts)It's fun to imagine a talking animal. If a horse could talk, what would it say? There's a whole series of mystery novels involving talking cats, and they're silly but kind of fun.

(8,387 posts)I always love "How are we supposed to explain this to THE CHILDREN?"
You know, those people who have to explain to their children what all the products in the drugstore do?
All they have to do is ask their mother....

Or that nice man who lives next door...

I admit, though, that as I grew older, I realized that keeping Barbara Eden in a bottle in my mod living room wasn't going to work out as a life plan.

They weren't even married!
But, seriously, was there a pilot for My Mother the Car that explained it? Because I never questioned the premise of the show. I mean, okay, that's the title, let's get on with it.

(8,387 posts)Of course, sometimes Ward Cleaver was pretty rough on the Beaver too...
He'd pick up some movies from Colonel Hogan, and she'd let him come in the bottle...

(11,499 posts)But I never questioned it, maybe because I grew up on Walt Disney animated movies and other cartoons, comic books, and fairy tales... talking animals were part of my world as a kid, and also as a kid I was used to arbitrary situations, so it never occurred to me to wonder why Ed only talked to Wilbur. I was more puzzled by how they got Mr. Ed's mouth to move that way.

(2,659 posts)I remember seeing Star Wars one time where the music track had become damaged enough to be mostly inaudible. I realized at that point just how truly bad George Lucas' dialog truly was.
Take out the laugh track and Mr. Ed's dialog, and the series becomes considerably darker.
