Nearly all from that era. Now we are more “woke” though we still have a distance to go.

white townspeople save the town. The Sheriff is loved by all in the end. He kills the racist industrialist. Straight seeming cowboy falls in love with a guy from the chorus was cute too. Mel as a Native American speaking Yiddish was satire about how Jews played Native Americans in movies.

The only part I didn't like was the Arabs as bad guys part. I'm Jewish BTW. That part offended me.

don't like my explanation doesn't mean it's not funny to me. We just don't think alike . I was mentioning the politics behind the humor.

Yes, comedy is subjective. But just because some people don't find a joke funny doesn't mean they didn't 'get it'.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say I agree with you. I’d probably feel the same way.

Maybe I would have found it funnier years ago but not now.

If you made it half-way through, you got to enjoy the all-important Beans Around The Campfire scene. It's like sex: You never forget the first time you experienced it, and endless repeats are fully welcome...

... I don't find it cringeworthy at all, because I think it sends up the racism and bigotry of the era very well. But though we like to pretend that times have changed since them, I'm not convinced that they have, so the futility of the spoof and the way it remains a valid commentary on contemporary mores might make it cringeworthy for someone who hoped we'd be doing better by now.

So I watched various reaction videos of people of color watching it for the first time.
The original shock of the blunt racism originally took most of the reviewers back, but the more they watched the more they got it and laughed. And actually loved it. They loved it as much as I do. It's blunt wrongness is part of what makes it great.
"They said you was hung" , "They wasn't lying" .

It is still funny but Mel Brooks couldn’t make this movie now in our political environment And the racists of today couldn’t realize it’s a satire about them. And don’t get me started on the scene when Taggart was enlisting different groups to the posse to destroy Rock Ridge.
