As long as you get a flight approved crate, most airlines will deliver him to your closest airport. I did this with my sister's cat.
We already have 4 dogs, and too many cats to count, or I'd take him too. The way he was found just breaks my heart.

I can understand the reason, but hell I'm a hermit! I can't remember the last time I was away from here for an hour.
[ Edit to add: ] Now I remember -- it was in 2020 when I drove to the outskirts of the nearest city to pick up my bull mastiff from a nurse out of TN. She drove 5 hours; I drove 45 minutes.

That's kind of extreme. I've adopted a lot of dogs over the years, and never had anyone demand that.
