Mine was at Kennywood Park, West Mifflin, PA near Pittsburgh.

(76,706 posts)In Bowling Green. We took a mini-vacation there the first year my cousins came to live with us.
My mom & dad rented a travel trailer to see if that would work, now that there were 5 kids.
I was 14.
My girl cousin (10 at the time) was a shrieking mess the whole ride. We couldn't have been off the ride for 30 seconds when she said to my dad, "Can we go on it again?"
Guess it was fun after all.
Oh, and by next summer we had our own 27' travel trail.

(14,466 posts)When I first rode the mouse. The ride in Seaside was located at the very end of the amusement pier and when the cars made turns on the rails it looked like you would shoot right off into the ocean.
It was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy and thee is an iconic picture from that storm of the coaster half submerged in the ocean.

(76,706 posts)Had the same sensation. That's what freaked my cousin, too.
It wasn't the speed, it was the suddenness of the turns.
I checked and Beech Bend is still in operation. 53 years later! And, they still have the Wild Mouse.

(23,694 posts)It doesn't look a thing like it did back in the 1960s ! There was the inhumane "zoo" for one thing.
The pool looks amazing!!! I'd like to go play in that thing all day

(23,694 posts)Been there many times. (I grew up about40 miles from Bowling Green) It was a favorite for end of year class trips, church picnics and so forth.
However the swimming pool was my favorite; it had this amazing slide.
Lots of good memories there
ProfessorGAC
(76,706 posts)But, I have vivid memories because it was the first vacation after we went from 2 kids to five, in one fell swoop. Also, first trip ever in a trailer.

(76,706 posts)It closed before I turned 11, (1967), so there were rides I never got to go on.
But, it was the first thing I thought of, too.

Whatever, i still wouldn't ride one.

(17,757 posts)It was more about proving that I wasn't scared of them. (I was) My manhood may be in jeopardy when I admit that I have never been a big risk taker. It probably comes from a feeling that I am not particularly "lucky." It may be why I survived when a lot of my school mates did not.

(17,821 posts)I was indestructible back then, but there's no way I'd be able to ride it today. Vomit would be flying everywhere!
The rides were great, but what I liked best were the freak shows. I had to sneak off away from my parents to see them. They hated that I liked that shit!

(3,832 posts)Never got to ride one, then I was too big and it was time for the Ferris wheel. Only did a roller coaster once. Made me long for the Merry Go Round...

(60,612 posts)was boring at school picnics to be stuck on those types of horses.

I can remember running to find a free horse before the go round started up. Ah, the joys of kidhood.

(17,785 posts)I rode the Salt 'n' Pepper Shaker once. My little buddy laughed so hard he peed his pants, but I was too petrified even to scream.
It was only a couple of minutes, but it seemed interminable.

(82,849 posts)It helps if you have a co-passenger who's as into making the big spin as you are. You can pack some serious g-force into the ride.
I like the bumper cars as they used to be, a free-for-all where you could t-bone your brother and not get in trouble. But anymore, everyone has to go in a circle in the same direction, no bumping. Might as well ride the merry-go-round.

(23,694 posts)I think we had the Octopus, which I also liked.
I HATE the ones which turn you upside down. Terrifying.
I used to love roller coasters, but for about 20 years I had lower back issues which did not respond well to sudden moves. Not a good fit for roller coasters.

and was going to ignore the warning to take them off (cant see more than about 2 feet in front of me without them). It took about 1 second after the ride started moving to change my mind and take them off.
The second time, I wore contacts.

(11,851 posts)Sometimes different companies rename the rides, so I'll share videos of my favorites.
It's so much fun when one is with people that know how to lean in and get the most spins. Although in my older age, I feel like I need a neck brace for support while on said ride.
The Scrambler. In this video a company renamed it "Sizzler".

debm55
(60,612 posts)didn't like is that the park had lightning detectors. When lightning was detected, it was everyone out of the water. Same with the rides. You would get in line for the tubes and if the siren went off and you were in line, you weren't allowed on any of the rides. Had to wait for second siren to let workers know all was clear. I get it, but it was pain waiting in line.
