Happy Summer Solstice!

I will be out until the sun goes down tonight relishing this, the longest day of the year.

I always look forward to this day, but, when it arrives, also feel sorrowful.

Knowing that half the year’s gone and the days will grow shorter until six months from now is a summer bummer. It’s my reminder to wring the most out of each day going forward.

Here this far north, the long days of midsummer are really long. We are about the same latitude as Calgary. It's even longer up in Sweden. Stockholm is a two hour flight north of here, and Kiruna is another 90 minutes flight north of there. In Kiruna, the sun never goes completely down at this time of year.
