(71,876 posts)After a good night's sleep, and thankfully no calls, I'm feeling much better.
Thank you for your kind words.

(71,876 posts)That's a minor miracle in itself right there. Just got to get through the end of next week, then a four-day weekend.
BTW, I'm expecting an offer from my old medical organization sometime next week. I hope it's a good one. I'll take a small pay cut if it means less stress; but only a small one.

(71,876 posts)That's the thing about Friday nights on call. It's either feast or famine. Hoards of people either call the after-hours line Friday nights to have their little aches and pains evaluated (as if they didn't know that someone is always on call all weekend), or they check out early and hit the weekend without bothering the call provider.
Last night was perfectly quiet.
I needed that...

(67,909 posts)it is NOT the call I want to make! Hubby fell in bathroom, hit his head, blood everywhere. I was shell shocked, called 911, EMS there quickly, did a quick assessment and off we went to the ER. It went well, tho. He had stitches and we got home with a medical assist vehicle (TG I didn't have to call a cab!).
Now I know about lots of blood in that area of the head. TG for Yale-NH ER professionals. TG for blue state funding for these services.
You are the best. I wouldn't waste your time for anything.

(71,876 posts)That's not the kind of call I'm talking about. That's the kind of call we medical providers suit up for.
I'm talking about nuisance calls like the one I got once at three o'clock in the morning:
"Yeah, I just have some questions about COVID-19."
"......AT THREE O'GOD-DAMNED-CLOCK IN THE MORNING!?!?!" - I didn't say but should have...

(67,909 posts)ask about his wife's dental work plan! At 3 am!
My dentist is a real mensch, a great guy, a good Dem, who had me as an emergency patient on Jan. 6, for an extraction. I was weeping and couldn't stop. His assistant mopped up the tears running down my face. He called in a scrip for pain and said I was leaving his office NOW so please get this filled for her.
His goodness, and YOURS, should never be taken for granted. I can tell you are a caring professional. I am a little old lady who crumples faster than I used to and my husband is disabled. Life can get dicey.

(100,983 posts)At least the biggest show of the night will be ongoing tonight so you can probably have cocktails tonight and not really miss anything!
Good to see you too!

(28,898 posts)Is there a most frequent type of call?
In pediatrics, fever was the most common.

(71,876 posts)"Hi. I ran out of my medication. Can you refill it for me?"
"When did you run out?"
"Oh......about three weeks ago..."
They waited three weeks to refill their medications, and then waited until after office hours to call? One rather thinks that's an abuse of the 'emergency' after-hours line.
