Edit to add---My husband took me to a Naturalist Camp on the Ohio Border. I went twice wore my bathing suit. They told me I couldn't wear it anymore. I never went back. He did. Also, tried in college, but saw a water snake and quickly left without swimming.

(33,643 posts)Not in a long time I guess but, yeah.
In college I used to frequent Pirates Cove in Avila Beach, CA near SLO, a nude beach.
I didn't just skinny dip, I hung out for hours.
Usually with an attractive, equally naked co-ed I brought with.

(60,454 posts)Nittany Mts of PA there was a lake. A group of us got high and decided to go swimming. I undressed but I saw a water snake and jumped right out. That was my journey into skinny dipping.

(96,931 posts)That and I didn't trust my fellow naked people not to use the bathroom in the water. Again, yuck factor.
I can hike/camp for days without worrying about my own dirt, but I don't want to mingle my dirt with the dirt of others. Well, I don't want their dirt on me is a more honest statement.

(60,454 posts)volleyball courts. On Labor Day(my last day) they had nude skydivers. My last memory from there was a nude skydiver landing on his butt on the volleyball court. I know that had to hurt. The camp is located in Darlington, PA not to far from the train derailment earlier this year.

(4,089 posts)When I was in about 8th grade, the newly built school had a pool and we had swim classes, life saving, etc.
Boys only and we were all nude. This was not the case for the girls in their classes.
Sounds far fetched and I can not explain the education system.
However, at my 50th HS reunion, one of the women classmates at our table, out of the blue, volunteered that "The boys in middle school swam nude."
In adult life: Hot springs in Oregon, a hot springs resort in California, a swimming hole in Colorado, some hot tubs, a dream or three.

(60,454 posts)left little to the imagination and girls wore speedo suits. I hated swim class.

(26,074 posts)You could always find some out of the way place to go skinny dipping, and as teenagers we did that a lot. Even when I moved to CA, I lived in the foothills and there was a pond around a side trail which we used for swimming/cooling down. Also went naked in some hot tubs, not exactly skinny dipping.
i have not been skinny dipping in many decades. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy at 47. REconstruction was a disaster, the surgeon was kicked out of medicine he was such a flake/quack. I had so much pain & infection, I hated that part of my body and certainly didn't want anyone else to see it - not even my husband. 25 years later, I lost 20 lbs., and the reconstruction finally looks ok and I am finally ok with the way I look dressed or undressed. Still don't want to skinny dip, though.

(68,175 posts)being naked in the pool, but because I went out so early, with no one around me to save me if I had a heart attack or something and needed rescue.
I now know it's a bad idea, esp. for someone my age.

(1,230 posts)Many times in the last millennium, in lakes and swimming holes in creeks and streams.
Many more times when I lived in FloraBama. The heat, the humidity. Oy!
There I had an above ground pool in the back yard, out of sight of neighbors. In the daytime, Id wear a swimsuit, float on a raft, and read YA lit. That was in my high school librarian days, and I was always previewing books I thought my students would want to read. But I digress.
After dark, it wasnt quite so miserably hot, Id skinny dip, mostly swimming. Not laps, the pool was only 12 foot diameter. Id swim circles around the perimeter, alternating clockwise and counter-clockwise every 10 minutes or so until I was and tired and my fingers and toes were totally prune-y. Wrap up in my towel and head inside for a nice warm shower followed by a good nights sleep.
I love swimming. Ive always loved swimming. My sweet mama used to swear I was part otter! I could swim before I could walk. I have photos. My dad had taught swimming lessons at the YMCA in Detroit well before I was born. He had me swimming in Lake Michigan when I was 5 months old!
Swimming is one of the best gifts my dad gave me.
Its right up there with mamas gift of loving reading and libraries.

(60,454 posts)thought I could take the baby with me and hold him as I walked in the pool, He had to have been 6 to 8 weeks old. She told me to go under the water and watch. She went down and let go of the baby and he swam to the top on his own. She told me that babies lose that ability. I was scared shitless and left. Later he joined another Y and began the swimming program at 2. At three he was diving off of the board. Their program ended at 5 years and he was not into team swimming. But I never had to be afraid of him around water.

(10,192 posts)IIRC, it was pretty dark outside, and my sister and I asked our parents if we could swim without our suits on for a couple of minutes. We giggled the entire time.
I haven't done it since.

(72,152 posts)I've always been self-conscious about my body, even back when it was in top condition. I mean, I had abs once, and I still didn't like taking off my shirt in front of others (unless undressing was leading to something more intimate than swimming...

We heard about this place and crossed a fence to get to the stream. It was fun, for about 45 minutes, then we got chased off by the guy whose land we were on.
Sunshine-happy drugs might have also been involved.

(8,514 posts)My first husband and I lived at his family's cabin on a lake way up in Canada one summer back when we were in college. It was COLD! It seemed to be pretty secluded, but I suppose there's a possibility that the people in the neighboring cabin could see us. My attitude is that we all have a body, and people make way too big of a deal about nakedness. I'm not a nudist or an exhibitionist, but if someone tried to blackmail me with pics of my naked body, I'd just laugh.

(8,514 posts)My husband at the time was a lifeguard during the summer at a manmade lake built by the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company. I remember going out to that lake to visit him with our son. There was a group of teen girls frolicking around in bikinis trying to get his attention. I was wearing a jacket. At the lake by our cabin we really just skinny dipped as sort of a bath because there was no running water. Fun times. I actually do have a lot of fond memories of that first summer, but yeah, it was cold. I'd love to go back and take a stroll down memory lane. Probably won't.
I put clothing on if it's chilly, or if I'm going to town, though..

(40,679 posts)As some may know I like to use old fashioned cameras and develop my own film.
Some years ago I was skinny dipping at a favorite secluded river spot in the Sierra and my wife thought it would be fun to pick up my camera and take pictures of me.
My usual habit with film is to throw the exposed rolls in a big plastic jar and develop them myself in large batches. My wife knows that.
This time however, I was feeling a little lazy, so I took all the film months later to the Costco photo desk (when there was such a place) having entirely forgotten the naked pics.
When I picked up the order I couldn't help but notice the clerks were looking me up and down, smirks or grins upon their faces.
I had no idea what that was about until I looked through the prints.
