but the ocean is the most fun.
I prefer the ocean or a pool to lakes or rivers.

Don't like the chlorine in pools, and the probability that someone near you has peed in it, which is why you need the chlorine. I've no access to an ocean right now but I've done it and it was nice but too warm and salty and there were weird animals like horseshoe crabs; also, it was kind of annoying to have to wash off after swimming. Lakes are nice and cool and the creatures in them are not likely to sting or eat you.

10. Lakes are no more dangerous than pools as long as you are familiar with them

and you have someone with you. When I was a kid we'd swim in an area of a very large lake where we knew where the shallow areas were and how far out you could go before the drop-off, and we never swam alone. People drown in swimming pools all the time, and I'd rather not drown in chlorine and other people's pee if I had to choose.

Those are my choices, and the pond is a great way to cool down on a hot day. The koi swimming around me are just a bonus.

the swimming pool at the motel where they were staying, She thought it was cute that there were a few ducks swimming with her - until she ended up in the hospital for almost a week with a severe bacterial infection that was determined to have been caused from duck poop.

I stay out of lakes and slow-moving rivers for the same reason. It's not just duck poop that can cause problems. Cow poop can too. Actually, any poop can.

when they are either swimming alone or if there are so many people in the pool that nobody notices if a person goes under and doesn't come up again. Natural water is just as safe and is often cleaner.
