I've been promoted to evening manager at my coffee shop. Figures treating other employees with kindness and respect makes you leadership material. So least I am getting somewhere lol the old manager found a new job...so I got this by default I guess? Just means I get to manage a bunch of brats, but they are MY brats and I love them.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)The love you express for your "brats" is a great indication that you didn't just get this promotion by default.
If your higher-ups have any business sense, they recognized that you, yourself, are going to be a strong asset to the shop.
I'm with you, holding on to kindness and respect in the face of so much selfishness and hatred in our country IS the only positive way forward.
Well done!

(10,481 posts)They call me grandma because I'm the oldest outside of the owner. So I call my crew brats because they are 10+ years younger than me lol

(10,481 posts)None of what we say to each other is malicious. Most of these kids are between 17 to 25. I'm 33 and the oldest outside the owner. They are brats indeed, but they are my brats. And they are respectful brats that like to play around.

(11,850 posts)I worked at a job for over a decade and we teased each other relentlessly.
It made work enjoyable and the day so much faster.
Unfortunately, I've never found another co-workers that were that fun to be around since that job ended.
I don't take life too seriously and I don't have time for drama or deflections.

(10,481 posts)We've hosted drag shows before, we also serve alcohol, we have pride flags hung up all year. You'd be surprised how many bigots want a special coffee that normally they would call elitist coffee lol

(3,379 posts)Congratulations! A lot of people who want to go into management don't realise that those 'soft' people skills are the way to get the best out of your staff, and keep them happy.
When I was promoted to manager/lead people groaned, because that meant I was the chief editor at our documentation firm and the joke was that I filled my red pen with blood. But I treated everyone well and with respect so they put up with me lol.
