The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI went to the post office to buy stamps
I was kidding around with the clerk and asked for a sheet of the ugliest stamps she had. She put a sheet of 20 stamps in an envelope and I paid without looking at them.
When I got home, I discovered they were Nancy Reagan stamps!
I guess I got exactly what I asked for.

It used to have to be ten years but I think that's been loosened tto allow more recent decedents.

Reagan was God's reminder to America, that He indeed has a sense of humor.
A real statesman compared to Dubya and Cheeto though.

(23,336 posts)Reagan was just lucky Carter had just popped the OPEC price bubble by the time he left office - thus making the 'Reagan recovery' possible.
But the snowballing national debt - that was Reagan's real legacy. A snowball we still can't stop (Clinton came very close).

(9,062 posts)The non-forever ones were always a bit of a rip-off. I pay for a service up front, and you change the price afterwards and don't honor our purchase agreement? Inflation works both ways suckers...when I paid for it, those dollars were worth more.

(25,048 posts)Some are aesthetic. That's not what applies here. Yet, I would say that they were an attractive couple, in a Hollywood sort-of way.
But fundamentally, the Reagans were ugly people in their intentions, behavior, bigotries and thoughtlessness.
I'm sure you understand the difference.

Rabrrrrrr
(58,374 posts)but the stamp is a terrible likeness.
Or maybe it's a really good likeness - it's all plastic-like, sort of artificial, very much the worst of LA/Hollywood pretend/fake, doesn't quite look human, and kind of sloppy.
If I were in the Reagan family, and assuming I was one of the family members who actually respected her, I'd be upset at whoever painted that thing.
Just not good.
