Re my post of yesterday re car: situation has drastically

morphed into something different.

My sister desperately needs a new car. I told Mrs. V. I'd been thinking about seeing if we can help her with a down payment. Thing is, I'm not sure my sister can afford a car payment.

Mrs. V. came up with this idea: we buy a new car, and ship our '05 Corolla -- which is in really excellent condition -- to CA for my sister.

Thoughts?

Driving '93 Camry Wagon Dad gave me few years ago, 135,000 miles, and running beautifully. NO plans to replace it.

Make triple sure the shipper will perform. I've had several people I know encounter nightmare situations with shipping cars. One of the tricks is that they drop the car at some "transfer" station and then try to charge for "storage" fees while it's there for two weeks "waiting" on the next truck. Just stuff like that so do your homework on the shipper and get everything in writing.
