Thats two in about three months that quit working after a few weeks of use. At least I got to use up the free K-Cups that came with the machines!

(10,104 posts)Works like a Keurig but the coffee is better and hotter. $79 on Amazon. Uses the same pods.

(113,973 posts)so I'm glad to see some of their other products being mentioned. I love my instant pot, bought a second one for my sister and want them to continue to succeed with that and other products, like the coffee maker you mention.

(10,104 posts)That also makes espresso and steamed milk.
My daughter LOVES her Instant Pot and uses it all the time. She got me one for Christmas the other year and I havent done much with it yet except for the totally awesome hard-boiled eggs. Will never make them any other way.

(12,641 posts)So that involves a grinder, french press and microwave to heat the delicious concoctions to stir into the brew. Seems to work well together for years.

(23,882 posts)I need to wait for my partner to be out of the house since she hates the smell of coffee (but oddly can go into a Starbucks).
Takes about 5 minutes to grind and french-press.
I'm also convinced that most of the benefits of drinking coffee are just in the aroma - not scientific, just a gut/nasal feeling.

(15,359 posts)thing. The display was messed up. I did exactly what the manual said but couldn't read the display.
They had this film thing over it that displayed 12:00 and I never noticed. So, whatever the real display was showing me was overlayed with that. DOH! LOL

(15,359 posts)be defective. It wasn't. As soon as I had the same problem, I realized it was me. I peeled that thing off and it was fine. I should never have even had to read the freakin' manual!

(113,973 posts)I've had so many varieties of coffee makers, but I can control every aspect of it, make as much or little as I want, and most importantly control the temperature of the hot water. And it is CHEAP (except for the bean coffee, of course.
But, if you want it quicker and at a second's notice, buy one of those Japanese (Zojurushi) 3-4L Hot water boilers/dispensers. You can select the temp to maintain the water and they are insulated (for holding) so the electricity they use is minimal.

(10,104 posts)Always use distilled water in ours. My daughter has wrecked 2 of them (so far) by using their well water which Im sure is even harder than the public water we have.
Laffy Kat
(16,952 posts)No one is going to purchase distilled out-of-pocket and the clinic sure won't. It's fine. I'm trying to cut back caffeine anyway.

(32,913 posts)period. Its really hit and miss with them! 🤬

(11,856 posts)Mr. Coffee coffee maker works fine here.
Although, we do have to replace every few years since we're so hard on them.

The coffee sits in the cone (there's a mesh filter at the bottom) for however long you like (I do 4 minutes), on the counter.
and when you drop it on a cup or mug, that opens a valve and the coffee flows down.
Super easy to clean. Even easier, I lost the mesh filter (it does pop out for cleaning) and use a paper filter.
So, just toss it. Don't even have to rinse grounds out of the cone (kind to septic systems)
That said, I am incredibly foggy in the morning and use a cheap-ass Keurig knock-off which has lasted years, and will continue to do so.
Because it's as complicated as a clothespin.
The Italian Roast k-cups at Safeway/Vons are really good.

(51,308 posts)I love coffee, and I think I've tried every possible contraption known to man.
Right now I'm back with my French press, but I love new ways of making it.

Hekate
(100,133 posts)As it is, I use it till it goes fratz (only a year, more or less) then take it in for a refund and buy the new edition.
I think this is my 4th one, and may be the last. Its still working, so I have no excuse to take it back but Ive never been able to get rid of the lingering pungent odor of factory oil and its been many, many months. Thats just not right.
Lately Ive been grinding beans and rediscovering the wonderful aroma of coffee by the pot.
But Keurig sure is convenient.
