The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI have a drawer full of old political buttons. Does anyone know if they are worth anything, other
than historical? The oldest appear to be a March on Washington from Nov. 15, 1969 and Celebrate choice Mother's Day 1986, Che Guevara with a gun and bandolier "all power to the people," Bella Abzug in silhouette, Anderson of Illinois for President, I'm with the Duke (Dukakis), Amnesty with peace symbol.
I could hand them down to my grandkids but I don't know how interested they would be.
Selling them seems to be my best option, if it is worth the trouble of trying.

(534 posts)I lost all mine when the X threw them out when I walked out the door. Had an impressive collection of first print magazines too. 'George' from JFK jr was one of them. They got burned. Win some, lose some. He's dead and I'm extremely happily married now.

(13,849 posts)You will find the value of a button that way. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and an eBay sale is validation of worth.

The ones you mention show that you've been firmly planted on the left side of the aisle for decades. And that's a good thing.

(6,687 posts)We founded old badges and mounted them in a frame to hang in the den. You can have your treasures mounted like this and hang them. Too good to lose.

I think I have that match on Washington button though my parents wouldn't let me go (@ 16).
I do have the Moratorium, and Moratorium III buttons where I participated in NYC.
Humphrey, McGovern. (sigh)
And a very small Kennedy (jfk) button my uncle gave me. ?
I collect for historical, and cool graphics as well.

(16,512 posts)Our county Dem party has an annual fundraiser that includes a silent auction of donated items. Whenever vintage buttons and other ephemera are offered, they bring good money. And they never fail to generate some good conversation about our history, local and national.
Just a thought!
