(130,987 posts)and they are nicer than most people. I might have a dog too if my cat didn't mind but she would, very much. Your cat or dog always loves you, doesn't care what you look like, and doesn't judge you.

(17,872 posts)Dogs too, for that matter. They entertain us and give us their love and we love them back. It's like having a good friend with you all the time.

(43,362 posts)so are dogs, but I just have a cat.
The love stuff is good, of course, but I've got lotsa' love already. What I need is something quirky, something unusual and funny. Cats are great for that. Like this:

I was looking at my landscape, thinking "I know I put in giant lilac alliums, but where did the orange allium come from?" Then I saw some little pointy ears and realized it was my cat Oliver, masquerading as a flower.
Yesterday's amusement was when I was getting into my car. I saw a gray thing by the car door. Oh, I said, what is this? Leaning down to examine it, I saw it was a puff of gray with a foot and a tail. He had beheaded a mouse and left me the body. Isn't that just oh so charming?
Where are you going to get humor like that?

(130,987 posts)They seem to be somewhat immune to the laws of physics, can change their shapes, and sometimes disappear through portals into other dimensions until you start making Lost Cat posters to staple to telephone poles. Then they materialize at your feet with a look like, "What???"

(43,362 posts)Yes, that happened 2 days ago. I had leaned a large plastic covered frame, about 5' x 10', against a storage unit.
The frame protects terrace plants during the late fall.
Well, this made a marvelous pied-à-terre for Oliver, as the surface on top the storage unit was clear and behind it was a clumping bamboo and a retaining wall.
I didn't see him in his usual morning spot by the desk, so I opened the back door. He exited his new apartment, looking at me like, "Yes, I have a new place. Now where's my breakfast?"
You gotta' love their opportunism.

(24,906 posts)She was nothing but skin and bones and flea bites. A local rescue group drove all the way to Orange County to rescue her from a shelter where she had a date to be put down. When we got her I looked her right in the eyes and told her she would never be hungry again. I have spent 14 years keeping that promise. It give purpose to my life. I can't solve all the problems on the earth, but I can solve this one.
She's probably about 15 or 16 years old now, her vision and hearing are failing. But she's not hungry.

(24,906 posts)the first time I met this dog she threw both of her front legs around my neck and pulled herself towards me. I knew she was a keeper then.
