I've never heard or seen it otherwise either (well, except for discussion of the word in the Bible). I think it's a King James era word and should be pretty close to getting the "archaic" tag in dictionaries.

Well, I checked the online dictionary and there is a metaphorical usage that I've seen: "success begets further success."
